Should men who kill the mother of their children for fear of parental alienation be given shorter custodial sentences. The threat of man losing contact with his children because of a bitter split should be treated much less harshly than murder.

No men shouldn't get lighter sentences for murder just like women shouldn't get preferential treatment in terms of child custody. Its 'justice is blind' for a reason, judges tend to forget that though.

Murder is murder. It doesn't matter who kills who or why unless it's accidental, it should be treated as the most serious and heinous crime in the world.

On the other hand, if society's aware of a common cause of murders/mass shootings (like, for instance, the failure to provide emotional/mental health supports for men while vilifying them) it does have a duty to address the issue.

Fix the custody system. Make there be some legal punishment for using kids as a bargaining chip including post divorce. BUT DO NOT under any circumstance excuse murder.

No absolutely not.
Women frequently get away with murder or receive only token punishments because of emotional after the fact justifications. The classic being that the husband was abusive, controlling etc, or that the woman suffered from depression etc. which resulted in her killing a child. That women get this sort of leniency is wrong and it would be no less wrong if given to men, not that there is any chance of that happening.

This was clearly planned and premeditated and should be treated as such never mind that a woman under similar circumstances would be excused and given the benefit of spurious mitigations.

We should seek to fix injustices, not create more of them.

It would help nobody to excuse or encourage the murder of spouses due to real or perceived parental alienation.

If the father was hurt by parental alienation before murdering the mother of his children, do you think that would make his children closer to him? Or further alienate them from him..? It would not fix the problems the father was facing. It would make his problems worse. It would make the children's lives worse as well.

This is not something that should be encouraged or excused in any way.

I say yes. Because the equivalent crime (woman drowning all her kids because she's "depressed.") will never be prosecuted harshly either.
