I was in the military and in my experience, far more women have PT waivers exempting them from most or all of the different portions of the PT test in relation to men. Not like there aren't lazy fat male military members (plenty), and I'm not saying the females were lazy, but I think it speaks to the physiological differences between men and women more than anything. Just my take.

I was a Medic in the Army and had to do physicals and other tests on people who were on profile for long periods. The ratio of men vs women(women being much larger) was disappointing.
There's no way a 120 lb woman is going to be able to drag a 200-230lb male soldier anywhere.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that a majority of male soldiers fail the military fitness test, as well.

Edit: never mind. After reading this article, it claims only 30% of men fail the test. I might have been reading something about how the typical guy on the street couldn't pass a military fitness test.

this is interesting, this new combat fitness test is a radical departure from previous DOD fitness standards. This makes no allowances for age or gender, and sets different standards based on the physical requirements for individual MOS jobs.

it never made sense before under the old standard that would rate a middle aged woman higher than a peak fit teenage male because her standards were significantly lower. The latter could carry a wounded comrade for miles, the former would get out of breath walking to get help.

The current (and outgoing) APFT test is specifically biased in gender and age for scoring purposes.

This incoming one, the one referenced in the article, the ACFT, is entirely gender neutral and a much better performance test in general. Dynamic movements are a better indicator than the old standards, for either gender. Hope they keep this new one the way it is.
