I am a father to 3 “young adult” (ages 18, 22 and 24) sons who live with me and who for the most part have always gotten along (normal brotherly fights but nothing serious). However throughout this summer I’ve noticed a bit of a tension between them. I told my youngest to spill the beans since I figured the conflict was between the older two since they seemed the most tense. My youngest tired to avoid eye contact and kept trying to play dumb but I kept pushing. My eldest child had some bad history of impulsive behavior when he was a few years younger (the worst being an incident which resulted in his expulsion from college) but he had been slowly improving his life and I didn’t want to be too late to help him if he had done something to jeopardize itI really didn’t want my youngest keeping secrets.
When I finally got the truth out I was in shock, it turns out that middle child gathered a baby (my granddaughter) over a year ago, but had refused to even see the child. My oldest found out since he happens to work with a cousin of the mother, and he has been trying to get his brother to take responsibility and be there for his child, but he has refused.
I confronted my middle child and we got into a huge fight. He claimed that being a father would ruin his plans for life but I told him that he had to take responsibility for his own actions and that his child deserved to have a father in her life.
This went on for a while when I told him that if he didn’t think his own child deserved a father then he didn’t deserve a father himself and I told him that he had to leave the house. He is 22 years old and has a decent job and plenty of friends so I wasn’t too worried about him.
I have met my granddaughter and her family and have made some plans to sell my house and downsize to begin a college fund for her since my youngest child will go to college and my oldest has been saving up to move out.
It has been about a month now and while I feel like I made the correct decision, I still feel terrible. I chose to end my relationship with my son, which hurts so much, since I have always felt closest with him throughout his life (he had the same interests that I had and was the most willing to spend time with me) I feel horrible that I raised a kid who was willing to not care about a human he helped create, I feel like i ruined any chance of a relationship between him and my youngest son, and I feel guilty since my wife has been crying a lot the last few weeks and I don’t know how to fix anything.
AITA for this? Was my reaction too strong?
Edit: He is also incredibly lackluster at paying his child support, he has to be told to do it and even then he is reluctant.
Edit 2: a lot of people are getting upset about my reaction to the youngest child, however my oldest and youngest both have been trying to get him to own up on his own for months before I found out
Edit 3: also I have seen my granddaughter more than once, selling my house is not a knee jerk reaction since I we have been think about it for over a month and still haven’t made ANYTHING official (and my wife and I came up with this idea together )

"AITA" is an incredibly shitty sexist place. Every post there could be used as an example of "people would react to this very differently if the genders were reversed". Gender is often used as a prominent determining factor even when it isn't relevant, or dismissed when it is relevant(typically in situation that disadvantage men).

Looking through the thread, first notable thing I see from op
This 'sign away rights' is a common myth among boys, that if they get a girl pregnant and they are not ready to be a father they can 'sign away their rights' I haven't met many adults who believe that.
Interestingly, at no point does OP mention that the child was proven by DNA to be his sons child.
This seems to be the only mention of his wife, who would be an equal owner of the house BTW, that OP has unilaterally decided to sell
So all in all, I believe this is a troll, written by a woman or a male child. A woman may write something like this imagining this is what older men are like, and how little concern they have for their wives, the 'sign rights away' thing tho I really do believe is particular to male children.

Read top comment OP. It’s actually a fairly decent reply.

I agree there’s a few good ones, but most aren’t

If this ain't a good argument to make legal parental surrender a thing, I don't know what is.

I don't think this is real either, if the 22yo lives at home, how in god's name did nothing/nobody come to the house in the whole greater than 9 months this situation has been going on.
Honestly I would have a similar reaction, and I guarantee that the 22yo would end up giving in eventually anyway. You have to take responsibility for your actions, and in this way men are disadvantaged by our own biology. At the end of the day, if you aren't old enough for a kid, buy a fleshlight and leave women well enough alone.

There is nothing controversial here about taking care of your kids. For either gender. He made a baby, the least he can do is pay child support. End of story. This isn't a "men's rights" issue, this is a "take responsibility for your actions" issue.
And frankly, if the genders were reversed, y'all would be calling the mom an irresponsible whore and all manner of bullshit.
