Well what it is apparently consent to is being forced to labor to be able to afford, not just the amount that would be implied by your existing income, but in some cases the amount a judge thinks you should be able to afford based on his assessment of your earning capacity.

Without even any requirement that the money surplus to meeting the child's basic needs be spent on the child (and even then, it would only come out if the custodial parent were accused of neglect).

So we can't possibly let women have to go through 9 months of pregnancy involuntarily, but we're a-ok with forcing (primarily) men to involuntarily labor (not just labor, but labor to their maximum capacity) for 18 years?
