Basically, as a man, you never get a break. Ever. Hypergamy is ruthless in its cruel efficiency.Crying/sharing your pain is for women and children. Or to be kept among trustworthy male friends over whiskey.

I guess it would really depend on the context and the women. It's quite different some tears due to a film (likely to be seen as wussy), than crying at a friend's funeral (normal, even expected)

When my brother died I cried openly. I cried in front of my wife and my children. I cried in front of 50 people when talking about him at his memorial. It's important for me to show my children that strong men are not without feeling. I mean he was my brother for fuck's sake. I still choke up sometimes and he's been gone for three years. However, I don't curl up into a ball and become unproductive. I don't shut the world out and stay in bed in some bout of depression. I accept my feelings for what they are, I experience them as part of my grieving process, and I move on. At the end of the day I still have a wife and children to lead.
