I love it when women are running around topless and or naked. Saves me the brain cycles of imagining what it would look like. Just don't complain if people look, it's what eyes were made to do :P

I do not think there is a difference. I have lived in a culture where female breasts were treated the same as a males and it really did make more sense. In PNG they are treated very much the same.

As for breastfeeding many women choose not to or are unable to and at our local swimming pool many men have a lot bigger breasts than the women!

I do not think it is a big deal either way. It should be the choice of the woman though.

No woman should be prosecuted for going topless.

Last I checked, this ruling did not say that women must bear their chest in public. For all the hemming and hawing this author is doing, maybe then if women feel like their breasts are an intimate part of their body and very important, then they can just go ahead and keep them covered up.

No one said you had to takeoff your shirt.

Bullshit, this pisspoor article is full of strawmen. There isn't a difference, women should be allowed to go bare chested. Breasts aren't sexual organs, they are sexualized mostly in English speaking countries. Forcing a woman to keep a bra on a hot day while allowing a man to go bare chested is a double standard. Any woman who doesn't want to go bare chest can keep her shirt on.

Puritanism vs. equality - Both have their points - it should be the choice of the women if she wants to cover up or go bare breasted.

Puritans focusing on modesty, believing that women need to cover up are of course up in arms about this. Just visit a park in Munich in Summer. So many poor bare breast women lying in the sun.

The author of the article is attaching so many things to this ruling that aren't there. The ruling does not compel women to celebrate their bodies differently, or compel them to define their bodies in terms of men, or compel them to not consider themselves to be unique.

In fact, the ruling doesn't actually compel anyone to do anything. It eliminates a rule that compelled women to do something.

She claims that allowing women to go topless could cause a young woman to do so without realizing that she could be sexualized by other people and possibly be put in danger, but wasn't it already legal for women to walk down dark alleyways late in the night wearing revealing clothing? The court's ruling hasn't fundamentally changed anything there.

I think it is very strange that the author is advocating laws for the purpose of protecting women from their own decisions, similar to mandating nightly curfews for women. This comes across to me as being similar to laws that require passengers in vehicles to wear a safety belt for their own protection. Such laws do in fact protect people, but they are ultimately protecting people from themselves, from their own decisions. I suppose it is a matter of how much confidence you have in your own capacity to make wise decisions, or whether you would prefer to have the government make the decisions for you based on the theory that the government knows better how to run your life than you do.

I am not saying that there cannot possibly be any successful arguments one could make against this ruling; I just don't feel like the particular things the author is attaching to the ruling are all that convincing to me.

Strange but oddly fascinating article.
