Giving women the right to vote (and the same opportunities) was a mistake. Here's why:

I understand that men should also have a say but I find it terrifying that a woman may be unable to have an abortion if the father says no. Until we can transfer pregnancy, she's still the one getting eaten from the inside. Nobody should have to go through that unless they personally want to.

Give men reproductive rights or get over it

[–]Avistew -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Actually in most of these cases I think giving everyone free birth control would be helpful. She only had the abortion because the kid was unwanted. If she'd never been pregnant, he could have had a kid with someone who wanted one.

That's not incompatible with men reproductive right of course. We need to develop free birth control for them too. But without unwanted pregnancies there aren't any abortions either.

Nobody should die because of convenience. Health issues, different story.

[–]Avistew 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I agree, but I don't believe embryos are people. They don't even have a nervous system. They're part of the woman's body, like hair or nails or a growth on her arm. If we find a way to move if from one person to another, then I'll agree with you.

The nervous system is one of the first things to develop. https://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/fetal-development/fetal-brain-nervous-system/

Thanks for the link. My mistake. I've been using the wrong term. I meant the capacity of the embryo (or, by that point, foetus) to feel pain and understand what's going on.

I used to be pro-life but now I’m “pro-just don’t involve me” but I still can’t agree with thinking a baby (or what could become one) is simply a bunch of cells. I know this is kinda off the original post but it’s ignorant to say a embryo is like hair or nails... in fact we’re all just a bunch of cells, some have gone through puberty and some have started losing baby teeth, but we’re all human.

In context of the original post I believe that abortion should be both parties responsibility. I find it appalling that a woman can choose to have a baby and make the man pay for it. Yet, when a man wants the baby he gets no say. I’d probably be fine with women having full choice IF in the case the woman wants the child but the man doesn’t, he has no legal or financial obligation to that child. When you have consensual sex it becomes both parties responsibility to agree with the outcome. I think he’s smart to take this legal right and sue on behalf of his unborn child, interested to see what’ll happen in the future.

Well, dont kill any cancer cells then. They also have a right to live. And they have your dna too! Good luck...

[–]Avistew -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I definitely agree with your last point. I think if a woman wants the baby and the man doesn't, he shouldn't have to pay for it. I don't know how to enforce it though because some guys will be asshole who run away after saying they'll be there for the baby, and these people should definitely pay.

I would also approve more visitation rights and less paying. Lots of "deadbeat dads" are actually fathers who want to see their children, but know that when they're around the mother keeps fighting and so they stay away so their kids don't have to deal with being in the middle, and it's bullshit to treat them like they're abandoning their kids or something.

To go back to your first point, as your said this isn't a baby, but something that could become one. The main reason I don't think abortion should be considered murder is that it makes miscarriages manslaughter. And for parents who did want to have a baby, a miscarriage is bad enough, but then being charged for it? And if abortion is murder but miscarriage isn't manslaughter, how do you justify that? And how many women will get into accidents on purpose to get a miscarriage because safe abortions aren't an option? That would be even worse than the current situation.

Sperms may become a baby. Eggs may become a baby. Most people agree that having your period or masturbating aren't murder. When the two combine, some people say it's a human being. I say not yet. At yes, it is a bunch of cells, actually at first it's just one cell. When it has no nervous system and therefore can't feel pain (and at that time still has no awareness of anything like that), I am perfectly fine with termination. I find it less cruel or wrong than killing a living animal that does have a nervous system and self-awareness, and that happens all the time. I mean most of us eat meat and some of us hunt and so on.

So I do think people should be able to have abortions. I also think if there is ever a way for the man to keep the kid without the woman having to carry it, then doing that instead of abortion should be the default. But until then, it sucks for the guy, definitely, but yes, I think his loss is less negative to him than continuing pregnancy would be for her.

I understand not everyone holds this opinion and I respect that. And if you're a guys and this happened to you or you're worried it will happen to you, then obviously you can be angry with me, I get it. But I still think that in the end, the decision of the person whose health depends on it for the next 9 months is the one that matters.

Glad we could agree on the aspects relating Men having to pay for an unwanted child. The best I could come up with for a solution to people being dicks and swerving away would be to sign a contract with the birth certificate but idk I’m not a lawyer.

On to you point of a miscarriage being manslaughter, I don’t agree with that. In most cases miscarriages are an accident and I think would be more comparable to a sick child dying as it wasn’t necessarily bad parenting just the child got a bad hand. Abortion is purposeful thus would be more comparable to murder where there is intent (I do think abortions for the sake of saving the women’s life is an exception). Plus in your case murdering a pregnant woman shouldn’t count for double (which I believe it does), honestly the double murder is mostly used to show severity and usually doesn’t change the case. In the case of purposeful miscarriages it would end up having the same outcome but would definitely be more dangerous to the woman, so they would have to think about their own life. It could also be investigated if the woman does purposely cause a miscarriage, seeing as if foul play is accurate then evidence should be apparent.

On to the masturbation/period argument, if you isolate sperm cells or a women’s egg it will not turn into a child, it needs both components. So I’m going to argue no sperm will not become a baby. I would agree that early termination is better, but with New York they have termination a little late imo.

As of now there is no way for a child to be born outside the womb though possibly in the future we will have this technology. So I believe we should try our best to create fair laws that are safe for everyone, personally and financially.

I’m pro choice but it’s not part of the woman’s body like her organs or other parts are. In fact it’s blood can be incompatible with hers, causing a miscarriage. A pregnant woman’s body suppresses it’s own immune system because otherwise her immune system would see it as a foreign invader and attack it.

Yet if you found one on mars it would be national news in every country.

[–]Avistew 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. I'm not sure what your point is. If we found bacteria on Mars it would be national news too, that doesn't me we shouldn't take antibiotics. (Of course most bacteria are good and live in our bodies, but if those die it's not murder either).

[–]neverXmiss 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wholeheartedly disagree. Women don't reproduce by themselves, so unless they can do that, they are separate and not part of the woman's body.

I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree.

[–]Uly-sses -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is excellent news and I hope that he not only wins, but this sets a trend to the embracing life of babies, instead of killing them for convenience. Women have been opting for abortion to escape the responsibility of their actions for a long time and it is a horrible and disgusting thing.
