To be fair to Lily, she ended her friendship with Snape after he called her a Mudblood during their fifth year, and didn't actually get together with James until the seventh, so we can't say what would've happened if Snape hadn't insulted her. One could still argue that her reasoning for refusing to accept Snape's apologies were flimsy though, given the fact that she forgave James and his years of asshole Snape bullying. Then again, as a muggleborn living during Voldemort's reign of terror I'm going to guess pureblood bigotry would be more offensive to Lily...

To be fair, it's explicitly stated that Lily wants nothing to do with James until he reins in his more wild tendencies in their seventh year. She clearly is not enamored with him in the pensive memory from OoTP.

Snape was a greasy loner as a child, case closed.

It's one thing to hang onto a memory of a girl for your entire life because you have oneitis, it's another thing entirely to feel guilt because you fucked up, getting a person killed, like Snape did. Doesn't make him beta.

Snape was a death eater. Much more alpha tha James, I would say at that point. But it's a case of too little, too late. Teenage Snape would be best described as emo and beta.

In the end, as alpha as being a death eater is, Snape was still beta to Dumbledore and Lily. But, I'm not sure if he ever talks to Lily after becoming an adult.
