The privileged class in a society is the class treated leniently in court. It makes no sense that the oppressed class can assault the privileged class and be treated MORE leniently because of it.

In Canada (Which I live in) we don't give criminals very long in jail - man or woman. Long sentences are rare and make the news when it happens. 5 Years is more or less in line with a finding of guilt in a manslaughter charge.

I'm not seeing a huge issue here, seems like the case was thoroughly examined by both sides and agreed upon.
