Michael Flood teams up with Jesuit Social Services to "help" men who are "trapped" inside something called the Man Box. And by "help" i mean "attack," of course.

The degree to which young men feel pressured to adopt traditional ideals of manhood has been revealed in a new study commissioned by Jesuit Social Services.

The research uses an analytical survey called the "the man box" to ask young men a series of questions, exploring their attitudes and behaviours towards a range of topics, including:

Gender norms:

Health and wellbeing

Physical appearance

Relationships

Risk taking

Violence

Bystander behaviour

The survey was developed by an international research body and conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom and in Mexico.

Jesuit Social Services gained access to the survey and used it to conduct the first nationwide study of what Australians think about manhood, questioning 1,000 young men aged 18 to 30.

It found two-thirds of young men said they had been told a "real man" behaved in a certain way since they were a boy.

"This survey shows us traditional ideals of manhood in Australia are alive and well," co-author Dr Michael Flood said.

Did the study tell you that the boys were just trying to live up to expectations? Perhaps if society gave boys the same flexibility they give women, boys would do better,

What makes a man become who he is complex, nuanced and deeply affected by the forces of evolutionary psychology (i.e. sex). If you manage to implement:-

"What the Men's Project is trying to achieve is to allow people to be themselves, and not feeling that they have to be any which way,"

then men will end up pretty much as they are now.

However, this project is disingenuous, it is trying to define ideologically what men should be. History shows us that simple minded models of society that fit on the back of envelope and deny human nature are disasterous. The whole project is despicable.
