Adultery no longer a criminal offence in India, A petitioner had challenged the law saying it was arbitrary and discriminated against men. Only men could be punished under the law, 5 years in prison. Women could not be prosecuted.

This is better than before. But actually, adultery should be an offense which provides grounds for favorable divorce settlement if the idea of marriage is to be protected. Unaccountable adultery is not really a good thing for families
