Simply say, "I'm in Sales." And, if you really do run your own small company, you will know this is an absolutely true statement.

try something different.... the definition of insanity is saying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

play on words. "im a professional typist." (this leads to them having to figure out what it is you do - be mysterious and playful)..

When you say IT, they think Milton. You are an "executive at an R&D company."

... but really, you shouldn't be saying any of this. At best, you are dangling a wallet in front of them and that's bad news. I usually make something up like "window blind surveyor." (Yes, actually used that one.)

" I own my own business" If she asks more about it casually mention computer stuff and wave it away . They don't care about your job and if they do it's because there is money or fame in it .
