It varies a little from state to state but generally speaking, yes. Also note this doesn’t always translate the other way. I had a friend who had to fight for years to get full custody of his two sons from his ex and was paying a shit load in child support. He eventually won and got full custody, but he has told me that she has not paid a dime in child support.

I'm amazed you are asking this. On most of the planet child maintenance has to be paid by an absent parent, what ever the cause of absence...... other than death.

It's always felt worse than that; the LESS you have the kids, the MORE you have to pay.

That's why divorces get dirty; losing means you lose the kids AND pay more to the other.
