I never understand this. It is completely up to you how much you earn! You have to negotiate your salary. If you get less you are probably not worth more or haven't negotiated well enough. This happens to men as well, all the time! So they didn't force her to take this role for this money, I guess. So she was probably fine with the salary until she figured out that a man was earning more money. Of course it is easier and more convenient to blame the gender pay gap. But instead of complaining and ask other people to help her, a strong and independent woman would learn from this and negotiate better next time! Exactly like all other.

She should be complaining to her agent. If an agent wants to offer their talent for a low price, producers will NEVER ask, "are you sure?". No, we take the low rate and sign them before they change their mind. It's not some, "systemic hollywood problem". It's agents.

This argument for pay in the context of Hollywood actors and actresses is fucking nonsense. You get paid based on your market value in tv and film -regardless of gender, ability or screen time. Obviously Dominic West is significant more known as an actor and therefore merits the higher salary. If Meryl Streep is starring in something opposite Dominic West, she’s getting paid triple his salary. If Dwayne Johnson is starring opposite Denise Richards, he’s making triple her salary. It’s not a complicated concept.
