I've been watching John Oliver's new video about workplace sexual harassment. Towards the end of it, he interviews Anita Hill who, 27 years ago, testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee about her horrible experience with one of her bosses. In that interview, she briefly talks about false claims but believes they're so rare they're not even worth making rules about it.
Sexual abuse and harassment are a very big problem to me, but as a woman I'm not familiar with the male perspective of it, particularly on the issue of false claims. So I have to ask: have you been accused of something you didn't do, what ended up happening, and how common do you find situations like this to be?
EDIT: I'm at work right now so I can't answer or read all of the responses posted here (I'm writing this during a small break), but I'm fucking horrified at the stories I did get a chance to review.
It's really naive to think it's as simple as "you have nothing to worry about if you're not a harasser". Truth is, there's a lot of unstable, attention-seeking individuals who are going to HR or the police with false claims in order to hurt someone. I'm sorry that so many of you have had to deal with this and need to take extreme measures to prevent it from happening again. I really hope this topic is talked about more because the consequences can be truly horrible for those unjustly accused.

A lot of toxic feminity on display there.

Only once and I was very lucky that I'm not in the U.S. because I would have been crucified.
I had the misfortune of being stuck alone with an incredibly attractive young woman at work for several hours, in a fairly small room , going over some stuff. I'm not going to pretend I didn't flirt with her a bit, I did, and she flirted right back.
A few months later, I was called up to the meeting room and was taken aside to another area, a room I had never been in. I was sat before a group of people, a tribunal. I was completely unprepared and caught completely off guard. I was mentally scrambling thinking "Why is this happening? I haven't done anything wrong.... WHAT HAPPENED?".
What happened exactly was that a far less attractive woman , reported me in place of the attractive woman, suggesting that I had "behaved inappropriately", I was never told exactly what the accusation was, nor what precise role either woman had , I was forbidden to ask and especially forbidden to talk to either one in any way . Anyway after getting grilled for what felt like an eternity, I was suspended and put under investigation , I could have been fired and was told I could go to jail over this.
Eventually the woman that accused me and the gorgeous woman were basically ousted as, one a trouble-starting attention whore/compulsive liar, and the other a hardcore slut that somehow, they knew I hadn't had any sexual contact with and so they chose to believe my story (THE TRUTH) because the story of one or both, I'm not sure, was that I was some big evil predator seeking to take advantage of pretty young girls when I'm probably the most straight edged person you will ever hear of.
In any case, I was lucky because they chose to take the ultra disruptive and inconsistent behavior of the two women as evidence that their stories of (apparently) being pure innocent angels that were "victimized" by a big evil lying man, were complete bullshit .... and that my story of "I don't even know what they're talking about, I have never done anything with either one nor would I ever. They're lying." ....
It could have easily gone the other way..... but I Very strongly suspect my current boss had something to do with it; She's a woman, about 6 (ish) years older than me, extremely proficient at her job, very laid back and cool... single, childless and unattractive but she doesn't give a fuck, she's always having fun and is one of my personal heroes/role models.
I suspect she didn't buy the girl's story from the beginning .... but even if it wasn't her, it necessarily had to be at least one person on the tribunal that didn't buy the girl's story for me to have survived and I am positive it was her. It feels nice to know at least one person believed in me....
But I know a lot of other men aren't as lucky. It's fucked up.
