Women will of course be pilloried and threatened by corrupt institutions and misogynist trolls for daring to accuse a man, but these antagonists start from the assumption that she’s making it up or actually to blame. With a man, you can acknowledge the incident as reported — we have no problem trusting a man’s version of reality — while still brushing it off as a joke.

Right, I think this is an important distinction to notice. When female victims are believed, they're generally taken seriously. When male victims are believed, even then they're not taken seriously. Meaning female victims sometimes have to jump over the hurdle of disbelief first. Male victims have both the hurdles of disbelief, as well as getting support even when believed

The only stark reasons for differences between the treatment of terry crews and Brendan Fraser (from my perspective) are:

terry crews was viewed as more masculine, easily allowing people to slap an 'oh its cause of "toxic masculinity"' label on him which provided a massive boost to relevancy for feminism to rally behind to finally prove for the first time that 'see? We do care about a man'.
because terry crews pandered to the feminist rhetoric, even going full male-guilt-repentance about how he objectified women until he found the light of feminism.

I wonder if Brendan Fraser had thrown his full weight behind the feminist movement, would he have been taken more seriously?
