To wish it were otherwise

One well known psychological trait is to deny facts that get in the way of your beliefs: cognitive immunization. A great deal mentioned in various books of evolutionary psychology (such as this or this or this) do appear to be contrary to the desirable reality that feminists seek.

Ms Bree, a reviewer at Goodreads, writes about 'The Red Queen' evolutionary psychology book: "I find it hard to swallow that we are only biological animals who are driven only by the need to find a way to better our species by sex with those chosen for their perfection. I look at all we create and imagine and I see so much more than that. He does grant that we are creative, but still underneath it all we are just creative apes."

Ms Anne, writes: "Nothing sexier than reading about about the genetic reasoning behind objectifying the opposite sex, that's what I always say."

Ms Jennifer wrote: "If you are satisfied with the hetero-normative, monogamous, anglo, male-dominated definitions of sex and partnership (and if you are going to read this book as popular literature rather than as complete and well-founded scientific conjecture) go right ahead."

Their comments, in all their glorious snarkiness, don't appear to be so much interested in truth or reality but in their exasperation that the world the book describes is not what they hoped for. But at least they did try to read the books.

The unnecessary rush from is to ought

What is sad about this leap from 'is' to 'ought' (that is, from discussing how the world is and confusing it with how the world should be) is that it is possible to imagine an absolute reversal of current ideological positions on evolutionary psychology without damage to their dreams. We can imagine an alternate universe where the leftist feminist believes evolutionary psychology is right and the conservative is against most of its findings. In this World, the feminist will say that precisely because the world does end up with men at the top and brings about hierarchies etc, then we must do something to combat this. So there is no particular reason for leftist feminists (who, judging from the Goodreads reviews I have quoted, have dominance in women's thought) to take the position they take.

Other possible reasons

What is making leftist feminists get everything wrong? Could it be the textbooks? Of course it could well be. The textbooks are so cagey on this issue that a paper examining textbook bias on major issues of controversy such as the ridiculous 10% brain hypothesis or the Stereotype Threat (probably not true) wrote:

Although most psychologists probably acknowledge that evolution is one driving force in shaping human behavior, evolutionary psychology has often been controversial (Confer et al. 2010). Although evolution may play a significant role in our sexual and mating behaviors, it remains possible that textbook authors may shy away from discussing evolutionary influences in favor of standard socialization models of such behaviors. This potential ideological preference for socialization rather than evolutionary explanations for mating choices and behaviors may be a potential source of mythmaking (see 'Education or Indoctrination? For an academic paper that is devastating. Take a look at the kind of textbooks psychology/ gender studies students read and weep.

I think this is less of a problem outside the Anglosphere, but I'll quote the Paper to finish up:
