Even though women's "jails" are more like cosy country clubs. Just a pretext for chivalry. And remember that even with these rules in place, the uk.gov thinks women are still being jailed too readily. I'm guessing the rules don't apply though when women start stealing from companies that pay money to the mainstream media.

Why is the welfare of children never an issue when men are sentenced?

The Bench Book says to favor women, not parents.

Not "because she is a woman."

She was spared because she's a woman with a child.

The judge says that the fact that she is a woman with a child is why he spared her. Not because she's a parent, but a female parent.
