She should be treated the same way as a male who commuted the same crime, in the same circumstances, with the same aggravating and mitigating factors. Using the above criteria, on average, men are sentenced much more harshly than women:

I am not a legal expert, so I can't definitively speak about this case ... but sentencing seems similar to what a male would receive. Maybe people are shocked because at this point everyone expects women to receive lighter sentences, so when a female is sentences in the same way as a male, it seems severe?

Her upbringing and her alleged ordeal with her pimp are unfortunate, but that doesn't excuse shooting a man in the head and then robbing him.

Her story is bullshit. She alleges the victim was reaching for something that she assumed was a gun and shot him in self-defense, but forensic evidence shows the man died face-down with his hands clasped under his head.

In short, she's where she belongs.

If women can argue mental distress in pleading for leniency, then men should be able to as well.

I am not at all opposed to prison reform along these lines. It has to apply to everyone, though — no favoritism, no exceptions.

I don't know anything about it other than what's in that link, but from it, it sounds like she's a cold-blooded murderer who murdered somebody to steal from them whilst posing as a prostitute. I assume there's more to it, but she's a murderer of somebody who, by this account at least, wasn't going to hurt her.

Are there examples of 16 year old boys from troubled backgrounds shooting sleeping men and stealing from them getting let out after thirteen years? If that's the case, then there might be some merit to it.

However, I very much doubt that is the case and it would appear people are expecting her to be literally allowed to get away with murder because she is a woman and something bad happened to her.

As others have said, it sounds like she murdered him in cold blood but lied and said it was self-defense. If celebrities want to believe her story over the evidence and provide support, then they are stupid, but the are free to do so. I just hope justice prevails.

She murdered the guy, she should be in jail for the rest of her life. And the comments on that site! God, it's like someone let the lunatics out of the asylum for the weekend! All the victim did was hire a hooker who was 16. A bit sleazy, if he knew her age, but not exactly a capital offense. But he was just a male ( a white one, at that ) and she is the embodiment of the Sacred Feminine so everyone wants her released!
