“Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new. There is no recovery for someone falsely accused — life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”

It is reassuring to read these words issued from the President of the United States. As many of us here know too well, allegations of domestic violence are often weaponized by women in divorce and custody battles. They provide the accuser with a difficult to surmount advantage in court, thanks to the prevailing woman as victim/man as abuser lens through which civil and criminal courts view domestic violence. The #metoo movement has only served to exacerbate anti-male discrimination with respect to justice in domestic violence and sex assault cases by removing the courts from the process altogether. Now an accusation is tantamount to conviction and men’s lives are being derailed or destroyed with little or no review of the facts and context of each case.

President Trump’s pushback on this issue is welcome and aligns with the pleas for fair treatment many mras have been making for years.
