My friend has 4 kids under 5yo, makes $140k/year and is getting divorced. Wife hasn’t worked in 5 years. How much will be left for him after child support/alimony?

He should ask that question to a lawyer.

Assuming his wife gets the kids full time, his child support for 4 kids and $140K/year would be about $3,000 per month if he lives in Canada plus he would have to pay 100% of unusual expenses like braces, or special sports programs.

Alimony is a tougher question, and very fact specific. It depends on what kind of work she did before she stopped working, and what her earning potential is. Assuming he's Canadian, his worst case scenario would be about 50% of his take home income.

No matter how you look at it, it's a lot of money. But people here joking about how he'd get "nothing" aren't interested in honestly answering your question.

Depends on the state and a lawyer can tell him more. Most states have a child support estimator on the internet. It will likely be a significant portion of his income if she is the custodial parent

I'm pretty sure in Ny and NJ the standard is 60% of his salary plus child support. I know guys who get paid 300k a year who take home less than a grand a week.
