Maybe it's just me, but since all the women C.K. masturbated in front of admitted that he asked if it was okay with them first...and apparently none said no... I find it really difficult to place much blame on him.

Most these #metoo accusations don't stand up to the slightest scrutiny, and Louis C.K.'s are no exception. The only way they hold water as rape/sexual assault is if we treat women like children.

[–]SoulofEquality 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Precisely my point. Glad to see others agree. We aren't children, and thus have a personal responsibility to speak up if we're uncomfortable with a situation, especially when directly asked if we're okay with it.

While many will understand where you are coming from.

this is actually one of the times where positions of power are important. That being said. It really is one of the most ridiculous of all the people being brought down.

From what I read the only woman he was directly working with declined and he respected it. Does power apply to any female comedian regardless of if they are working on the same show?

I don't think that's true.

E: Turns out I'm right there were 2 women he worked directly with the chris rock show women and the one where he was guest staring on a show she worked on.

[–]casmuff 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Great job moving the goalposts. First it's he's in a position of power, then it's he's working with them. In both those instances, the "victims" had just as much power over him as he did them.

[–]Justforyoufgt -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

that is a fundamental misjudgement of power dynamics.

[–]Santaball 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I guess that's why his career is over now. Who really has the power?

[–]Justforyoufgt -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

nice meaningless one liner.

[–]Santaball 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

One good turn deserves another

[–]Justforyoufgt 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

no mine had meaning, to show you had no meaning.

[–]SoulofEquality 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

If he actually used his status as a threat (if you don't watch me masturbate, you won't get hired) I'd absolutely agree with you. But unless any of his accusers come out to say that, which none have so far, then there is little reason they couldn't have said no.

[–]Justforyoufgt -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's really not like that, when a superiour asks you to do something it's hard to say no sometimes, but I may be mistaken with the actual working relationships involved.

[–]SoulofEquality 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Sometimes it is, if it's related to the job itself. I experienced this myself very often in my first two jobs, where I'd be consistently asked to work 10+ hours more a week while gaining nothing financially since I was salaried. But asking a fellow comedian if she wants to watch you wank off is not at all job related. And as far as I've been able to tell from my research into the C.K. cases, he was never a supervisor/employer to any of them. At best, he was just a worker in the same field, albeit a well-known one.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/09/arts/television/louis-ck-sexual-misconduct.html

i'm pretty sure at least 2 were involved in projects they were both working on.

The unnamed chris rock show person, and the

Ms. Corry, a comedian, writer and actress, has long felt haunted by her run-in with Louis C.K. In 2005, she was working as a performer and producer on a television pilot — a big step in her career — when Louis C.K., a guest star, approached her as she was walking to the set.

Person.

[–]SoulofEquality 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes, co-workers at best. The fact that he was a guest star and she was a producer/performer to the TV show he was invited to, puts her status above his own. He wasn't her supervisor or superior at any time.

[–]Justforyoufgt -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

puts her status above his own.

that's an extremely narrow interpretation of power dynamics. If a massive personality who has power of influence like Chris rock, or Dave chappel was invited as a guest star on someones show. It surly does not mean they are in less of a position of power from a certain point of view. They may not control that particular show or event, however their words or influence could break you. Which must be accounted for. How far that goes is up to you.

[–]SoulofEquality 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, then.

[–]Justforyoufgt 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can see where you are coming from, and I think this is the seemingly most retarded person being taken down. for me there is at least a little culpability that it was not entirely the best or right thing to do.

[–]the_unseen_one 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If my boss asked me if I would watch him masturbate, I'd say no. Not that hard.

[–]Ralathar44 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He wasn't famous at the time and they were basically coworkers. You're painting a set of rules that makes any consensual sexual acts between coworkers capable of being called rape now. That's neither right nor sustainable.

If you can't see how fucked that is, you are beyond reason lol.

[–]Spoonwood 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

this is actually one of the times where positions of power are important.

The women were in a position of power in that they could say 'no'. They had control such that they could do that.

[–]Justforyoufgt 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's not the kind of power im talking about.

[–]Fijieau 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“I know that sounds f--ked up, I’m not supposed to say that, but one of these ladies was like, ‘Louis C.K. was masturbating while I was on the phone with him.’ Bitch, you don’t know how to hang up a phone?"

LMAO.

[–]1up_for_life 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I really don't understand the outrage over Louis CK. Finding out that he's a pervert is like finding out that snoop dog actually smokes marijuana.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

scandalized gasps

[–]Spoonwood 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't agree that Louis CK did anything morally reprehensible. His behavior does seem different than many people, but mere difference in sexual preferences from the majority of people is not moral perversion. I don't see any evidence of harm to any of the accusers. So, I'm not seeing them as morally wronged in any way.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hahahaha, yeah it's so fucking stupid.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dave Chappelle has some serious brass ones, he's absolutely right about CK Louise's accuser, if you get discourage because CK Louise might have been jerking off on the phone, you were never going to make it and your looking for someone else to dump your failures onto.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It seems like he's got nothing to lose and it's great. "Oh? You wanna destroy my career? Bitch, I pulled the plug on my career at it's peak and went on hiatus for half a decade. You don't scare me"

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep Chappelle just doesn't give a fuck, he calls it like he sees it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Louis did nothing he asked first. As far as I know everyone said yes. Don't say yes to shit you don't want

[–]KR_Blade 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i agree, how is that so hard to grasp, they all said yes and they agreed to it, from the stories that popped up he didnt force any of them to say yes, they all said yes of their own free will.

if anything, louis ck just likes to have girls watch him while he's jacking it, just accuse him of being a pervert, instead they brand him as some sort of rapist.

[–]Spoonwood 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

if anything, louis ck just likes to have girls watch him while he's jacking it, just accuse him of being a pervert, instead they brand him as some sort of rapist.

The difficulty with doing that is that perversion indicates a lack of moral character. How exactly was Louis CK's character morally lacking when he considered the consent of women important? What harm did he cause to them by asking?

[–]Crunchy_towel 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not even a pervert. Just into some different shit. Like Dave Chappelle said, "We all fuck funny to somebody. "

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good advise.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The truth hurts, ladies. If that shit ruins your dreams, then you were too weak to achieve your dreams in the first place.
