Free markets are important, but the thing is, you don't confuse free markets with the lack of worker protection. In fact, regulations often increase the free market by not allowing massive companies to murder it in a strangehold of monopoly.

Take the US, for example. Their ISP's are not working under a free market, it is the opposite. They outcompete and take out any competition, creating an artificial monopoly and thus in turn destroys the free market they claim to support.

If the government went in and said that the state MUST allow at least two service providers in every area where there is internet access, the free market would boom thanks to that competition.

While worker protection might reduce the free market to a slight degree, it doesn't do it to any significant degree. In fact, in some cases, it actually increases their competitiveness in the market due to skilled workers being attracted to these careers once they're more safe and comfortable.

In fact, it might even force the company to try and innovate new things, lighter and more affordable safety equipment being the first idea that came to mind. Perhaps increasing efficiency of each worker to remove the cost of these safety precautions.

People view the term as being completely incompatible with government regulations but that is extremely untrue. Take Sweden with its alcohol sales. Despite being controlled by a government branch, which sells ALL alcohols except some beverages, all spirits, liqours, wines and etc are controlled by the State. But they allow competition but not standardizing all prices and forcing the imports, or exports, to be confined by choking restrictions.

So, despite them being highly regulated, Sweden has an extremely healthy and viable alcohol market.

And therefore it isn't a free market. The free market needs to be regulated in order to be free, so that massive influences doesn't restrict it.

If a person uses their money to buy up all the competition, that isn't the free market. That is the opposite of it. The free market is allowing companies to fulfill a demand, not to kill off the competition in order to be the ONLY option to fulfill that demand.

Regulating companies so that they cannot create monopolies is extremely important for the health of the free market. Whether this forcing States to allow two ISP's for every connected area, or not standardizing prices, it is the same damned result but with different methods of getting to that result.

The free market is, by its very definition, defined by competition within a supply and demand structure. Not a "supply and demand within a monopoly".

That is just communism, the opposite of a free market.
