This article is a case of post hoc, ergo propter hoc. Males labor force participation was dropping LONG before the opioid crisis hit. However what DID precede the male dropoff was the collapse of mens wages as a share of their output. If i am earning half of what my grandfather earned, why would i not be half as interested in working hard. The closure of the wage gap has occurred entirely at the expense of men for no gain by women at all, it is no wonder men are less interested in supplying their labor, this is 101 level economics, when prices fall, supply falls with them.

That bloomberg cannot figure this out shows what side their bread is buttered on. Hell, their continued peddling of the "education is the magic bullet" despite their own graphs showing that bachelors holders are declining at the same rate as highschool only is jawdropping.

Men can live far more simply than women. Perhaps if large numbers of us slip out of the harness and live simple non-materialistic lives, women will start wondering why the lights and heat aren't on and the roof is leaking and criminals own the streets.

Maybe they should do something like close down the women's prisons to make room for men ... erode the presumption of innocence or some such to control the poverty?
