Female teacher sex abusers again are never called out as such and portrayed far more sympathetically when being hoisted on their own petard. Oh and the sentences (if any) are a tiny fraction of what a man would get

Interesting how even though he mentions the power dynamic, there is a significant air of sympathy given to these child molesters. They have the same power dynamic that a male teacher has, yet somehow it is seen in many quarters as the boys were more able to deal with this over girls. This is at the same time as the same people claiming this will be talking about girls being more mature. Simply if a teacher of either gender was to abuse either my son or daughter they better get a damned long sentence, but they won't. Due to the vilification of male teachers being possible abusers they have driven many men away from the profession, I am wondering though given the amount of female teachers getting caught if women in that position are more likely to take advantage of it?

Women are treated more sympathetically but so should men. The answer here is not to say we should go harder on women, but we should be more sympathetic to men. The psychologist gives a very human reason for this behavior. People like to separate themselves from others like this since they don't want to confront that this shadow exists in them as well. When you look at bad behavior others do, you are in some sense looking at the behavior you could do, since we are all similar. In Buddhism, there is a tool used for compassion where you try to put yourself in the persons life experiences and see that you could've made the same decisions or at least understand them from their pov. Just because we disagree with some behavior doesn't mean we can't have compassion for the person who committed it. Nor does that preclude having compassion for the victim. Both can co-exist.

That is because women are not the demonized sex in our culture. When people see a woman, they see an actual human being, and spend a few moments actually considering the situation before passing judgment.

When people see a man, they have been conditioned to see a monster. That is the problem that must be resolved.
