The only reason the Matildas are playing football professionally at all is because there's a separate league for each sex.

If we didn't separate sports between the sexes, each player on that team wouldn't even rank in the top few million best players in the world.

People pay to watch the best in a sport. And so far the best male soccer teams are so much better than the best female soccer teams it might as well be counted as a different sport.
This video showed the Matildas getting obliterated by under15 and under17 year old boys. Boys who weren't even world-class.
If you're not performing at the same level you don't get the same money.
