[Request] I've been feeling uninteresting lately when out in social settings. Has anyone made measurable improvements with their storytelling abilities?

The biggest part for me, was understanding how I understand how people are perceived. The second part was understanding that how I understand this is different than everyone else.

With this, I asked the question: despite this fact, how do some people universally come off as charismatic/funny/sociable? How do I emulate/learn/train to this standard?

For me, it was an understanding that charismatic people have fun. they are almost always enjoying themselves. From my perspective, this is what makes them charismatic. Specifically, they enjoy the experience of sharing experiences. They enjoy that the experience happened and are grateful for the opportunity to share it. This is about 80% of story telling imo. Being able to genuinely enjoy the experience of sharing your experiences. for the TRP twist: This enjoyment stems from your experience enriching the lives of those that hear it.

the other 20% of story telling is delivery. If you watch standup, a lot of the time the stories they tell aren't very funny. the medium is the message, so a lot of standup is about delivery. The same is true of story telling. Knowing when and how to emphasize certain parts to draw people into the experience you are sharing.

I started with telling long jokes. /r/jokes is good for this. as there are quite a few long stories that are easy to memorize. Jokes also help set the stage because they have an expected outcome: humor. depending on the joke and the group, it can also be a good lead in to further conversations. 'Everyone knows Dave.' for example, can lead into travel or talking about people you know which can further evolve into other conversations.

Nobody wants to hear your story in a social setting.
You want to stay mysterious and leave them wanting more.
Stick to being genuinely interested in other's stories and lives.
Funny quips are ok, but giving a sermon is for when you are at Church.

Hey buddy, there's real observable consistency to good story telling. This dude has a youtube channel called Charisma on Command where he breaks down exactly what famous people do to make them charismatic. This one below is on how Kevin Hart captures people's attention so I'd recommend starting with that one. But there's a whole heap on there that are an absolute gold mine.

Ask questions that require more than yes/no answers. People like when others take active interest in them by trying to find out details about their lives.

For example (and feel free to answer here u/CypressSmallz), where was the last place you were out in a social setting? How did you get the idea that people weren't interested in you?

Start out general and then the conversation could break down into more personal territory (if you feel comfortable going there).
