She got a pussypass...and then got denied paying with her life. That's why judging a person by their ability is important. She didn't have all the requirements or experience to actually do the full job(stunt), and got through because of right race and gender.

They didn't want her to do it just because she was a woman and black, but because the person she was doing stunts for was a woman and black and they wanted the stunt person to be as close as possible.

That said, safety is always first, and the director should have gone for someone who could have done it safely.

This isn't really a pussypass. She was promoted because of her race and gender, not because of some system, but because the actor she was standing in for was a black woman. It makes perfect sense.

It's not like she was standing in for a white man. They just wanted the movie to be accurate. It would be really strange if they got a white woman as a stunt double for a black woman.

i dont get it, as she is a stuntwoman who is supposed to stand in for a character isnt her being the right race and gender of the stand in actually pretty reasonable, and not equality bullshit.

i.e if the character the stunt person was replacing was a 7ft chinese guy they would look preferably on a 7ft chinese stunt guy.

Stunt doubles have to look like the actor they're standing in for, right? It seems to be less of an issue of "put her in just because she's a black woman" and more of "put her in because the actress she's doubling for is a black woman". Wouldn't make sense to have a white dude double for the actress in question unless he's wearing like a full body suit.

Realistically it's the stuntman or stuntwoman's job first and foremost to know if they can do what is being asked of them. Accidents happen but no one knows their capabilities for vehicular stunts better than the operator.

This was a tragedy; I don't think this really constitutes PPD. If what the article says is true, then she should have turned down the job, or at least refused the scene in question.

I don't think this is inherently PPD or even a case of racial preference.

If you have a character that is black and female, you need not only the actor to be black and female but also the stunt person.

Finding a black, female stuntwoman with motorcycle training is a very difficult thing to find, yes she may not have been fully qualified but this is the life she lives and she knew the risks.

this is a sad event that is being misrepresented to fuel hate.
