I used to read websites about child abuse. After a time I simply couldn't do it anymore.

So many children are abused. I'm not just talking about verbal abuse or the occasional slap -- as bad as those are -- but brutal torture that would break down a hardened soldier.

We associate child abuse with the father but I what I found over and over again is that it's usually the mother who tortures the child, or the mother who has hooked up with a new baby daddy.

The biological father is long gone, having tried to achieve custody but pushed aside.

The most horrible case I can remember is that of "Baby P" in the UK. The father was a decent bloke, he tried to get custody but failed. The mother hooked up with a borderline retarded Nazi who proceeded to torture their little boy to death.

It happens every day but no one really cares. If we cared, we would demand equal custody.

It disgusts me how no matter how long and often this happens, people still refuse parental licensing
