Wow, i did not know this at all. Jeez. It's messed up that I didn't. I hear about breast cancer allll the time. Prostate cancer? Almost never. Wtf.

And in Australia, no less! But good luck getting a lot of folks to actual take prostate cancer seriously. It's just been dismissed when I've tried talking to family members about it.

Most cancers in the prostate actually take quit a long time to actually "kill you". most doctors recommend not treating it because chances are you will die from something else involving old age before dying of prostate cancer. It always more likely to occur in older men so they dont have 40 years to their name anyways

Less than 5% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer will die from it within ten years of their diagnosis. The life expectancy of most men will not be changed by the diagnosis. They will live until they die of something else - most notably a heart attack. A recent study, using US statistics, indicated that in a 20 year period more than 87% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer would not die from the disease. I don't mean to make light of anyone's suffering, but is this true? My understanding is that a lot of men die with prostate cancer as a consequence of it afflicting primarily older men and not because of it.

That being said, I think more should be done to raise awareness of prostate cancer. It sadly receives scant attention.

These are all over! I see them all the time in the women's bathrooms, and I'm really glad they're there. I also see ones for mental health assistance.

I'm not trying to make an argument for finding one way or another, and I want to make clear they I think this information is important, and I'm glad it's being spread.

But one of the reasons why breast cancer is better funding is because there are more cases then prostate. There are just more people affected by it.

I said this out loud to my (nurse) wife who scoffed at me, so I decided to look it up. I found that the American Cancer Society claims that the opposite is true:

The articles claim ~46,000 women die from breast cancer vs. ~26,000 men from prostate cancer.

...just sayin'.

It isn't factually true, I think, it's roughly the same number, although amount of money/attention given to breast cancer is times bigger.

In addition, more men die of breast cancer than women die of prostate cancer.
