I'm not even shocked at this.

Tells the kids she's getting married, tells the kids school she's getting married, send out wedding invitations, wears a wedding dress, has a wedding registry, and even enters into a Jewish traditional marriage.

But she doesn't get a marriage license, so she's not married.

Dude got screwed over and she owes him a lot of money, the way I see it.

No one can have it all.

Where does the notion come from that you can have it all?

Want a family? That will cost you. Want a career? That will cost you. You can manage to juggle a few major desires and stay on par on them but you definitely CANNOT have it all. At best you can have something like 3-5 really big things.

My grandmother collected alimony from my grandfather for 40 years. She had another man who was essentially her husband in every sense but the legal one for about 20 of those 40, but never married him. That would mean she would lose those alimony checks.

It all came to a head one Thanksgiving: my mother and grandmother were ridiculing my grandfather. Sitting and listening to them, I realized that at very moment, he was sitting in a nursing home slowly dying, STILL having to pay those alimony checks out of his savings. He'd worked himself into the grave to ensure my grandmother never had to become a responsible adult.

I told them off, left, and effectively divorced myself from that whole side of my family.

Later I reflected on all the shitty things the law had done to me on behalf of shitty women, and I began to read how other men had been fucked over, and finally discovered men's rights forums, where at least these issues were taken seriously.
