That headline is wrong I am sorry to say.

Today is the International Labor Organization's World Day for Safety and Health at Work. 4,836 US workers died in the workplace in 2015; 7% of them were female

Don't forget, 25% of the homeless are FEMALE!

Something needs to be done.

[–]brokedown 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is something. Thus we must do this.

[–]geniice 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the UK has lower death rates overall and in equivalent industries so it appears things could be done.

God, I would love to see what sort of articles would be published if it were 93% female...

Alternatively, can you imagine the "crisis", if the numbers "equalized", even a little?

What if it got down to 80% male, and all of a sudden it was 20% female? "We are FAILING our mothers/daughters! Women dying at the workplace is up almost 300%!"

[–]EsraYmssik 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A coupla years back there was a huge fuss because death rates for women had doubled in, IIRC, Canada.

Guess what, it was due to the recession. So many men had lost their jobs they were dying in fewer absolute numbers, so the %age of female deaths appeared to spike.

Heads would roll.

Well if you want results fast its mostly a matter of throwing more inspectors at the problem and applying more regs to farms. Both very unlikely under the current US government.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, Trump is unless on 95% of things.

[–]AFandAM 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I demand equality for women! Women should share equally in workplace deaths and injuries, both number and severity.

[–]nocivo 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the type of info that should go to frontpage.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You've got your stats wrong.

It should say, "7% of workplace fatalities were women!!!!!"

The site is a bit hard to navigate. Just curious -- is there any mention of declared races for those who have died in the workplace?

A reminder, no feminist analysis of equal pay considers dangerous working conditions. Feminist researchers justify this because doctors and CEOs make lots of money and suffer little risk. Don't believe me? Look it up!
