After a series of shockingly low sentences for mothers killing their babies, swiss lawyers want to erase a law from 1942 giving women probation for killing newborns. Men would get life imprisonment.

Some more information from the article: 6800 people participated in the survey. 83% said that men and women do not have equal rights, whereas 43% of women and 12% of men said that feminism is important. Most feminists are between 18 and 34 years old.

The most cited discrimination of men is the family law in general, followed by military conscription and lack of paternity leave. The most cited discrimination for women, you guessed it, the gender pay gap, while 21% of women said they are discriminated in every aspect of life.

Additionaly, 25% of men said that feminists are making them angry. Most feminists have an academic background.

60% of men and 17% of women stated that women have been helped enough, and that it is mens turn now. 63% of men feel that women are asking for too much.

Wow. That's what I call a complete analysis of news

(I live in Switzerland, the following info comes from my economics teacher in College, she is a fair and reasonable person, not some feminist nutjob)

Once you account for all the reasons for men to gain more than women in Switzerland, there is a remaining 7% that no one managed to explained and that as such is labelled "unexplained". Yes the Switz law makes it illegal to pay women differently than men.

So maybe, maybe a part of that 7% difference is actual sexism.

But yeah definitely law is against men in Switzerland. (the rest here wasn't mentioned by my economics teacher that's just me saying it)

  1. Army still mandatory for men in Switzerland not for women. Here you have the right to vote whether you go to the army or not though.

  2. The law defines rape as the act of penetrating the vagina with a penis without the consent of the person who has a vagina.

  3. Circumcision is perfectly legal at to my knowledge there's no law stopping a non medically trained person to go up to a child's genitals with a knife as long as it's a boy and the parents want it.

Then ofc all the shit that is not written in the law but that happens in practice exists here too. (men seen as pedos when close to kids, male suicide is 75% of the suicides in Switzerland, men loosing must legal battles to have the kids in a divorce...)

In the UK and the US the difference which is unexplained is about half that between 2-4% but that does not mean it is sexism. Negotiation for example is suspected of being a lot of the differential but is very hard to prove as well as other factors. So maybe 1-2% is sexism but then at the lowest level and likely not intentionally in the majority of cases.

The part of how women tend to negociate less was already taken into account.

What I wonder is how you even know that this part does X% of difference in salary, these stats are fishy.

The difference could be many things, like we don't know with certainty how much more men work. One thing's for sure, though: the wage gap narrative is so important to so many people that there is bound to be a "smog of war" around it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What annoys me is that wage gap or not, the law is here to stop it.

In the meantime law doesn't try to make men's situation any better.

So maybe, maybe a part of that 7% difference is actual sexism.

It's very simple: male sexual market value is very largely dependent on how much they earn, which has very little effect on female SMV. Men are more driven to earn more. It could hardly be simpler or more obvious.

[–]omegaphallic 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That 7% can be a lot of things that are not related to sexism, just stuff that is harder to quantify.

If a woman really believes she's being payed less, sue , I mean fuck there are laws against that. Shit or get off the pot.

It's funny women seems to have no problem sueing over alleged sexual harassment, even pathetic stuff like you look nice today, but when they allege that they are being payed less for the exact same work, it's like ALL THE FUCKING LAWYERS FELL OFF A CLIFF AND NONE CAN BE FOUND. Seriously if they really believe a crime has been committed shit or get off the pot.
