Has your being in the MRW open your mind to any conspiracy theories or other movements considered "fringe movements" by mainstream media?

I've certainly not bought into bought into any of the science-denying conspiracy theories (e.g. anti-fluoride, chemtrailers, moon landing deniers, flat earthers, etc), perhaps because I've had some prior experience dealing with antivaxxers, seeing that loony mindset and its consequences up close.

Rather than the MRM, I'd say it was the 2016 US election that opened my eyes to how biased and dishonest the mainstream media is. Before that I was skeptical of Fox News because of it's frequent and obvious science denial, but I just assumed that other outlets like CNN, the BBC, New York Times and so forth were unbiased and accurate, without having ever given it any thought.

I'll never be so naive and gullible about media bias again. A part of that is seeing how they dismiss and lie about men's issues and the MRM, but it goes well beyond just their treatment of the MRM.

The difference between conspiracy theorists and the MHRM is that the MHRM claims are supported by evidence - crime statistics, incarceration rates, medical statistics, and the like. Moon Landing Truthers, Flat Earthers and the like have no such empirical support. Lumping us in with those groups will only make things more difficult for us.

I only deal with primary sources before deciding validity now. I used to do that for science, but recent events have made me do it for politics too.

Watch the footage of the politicians talking, or don't bother imo. Similar for movements.

Even reprehensible movements get misrepresented in extremely important ways by the media, ways which prevent understanding how/why someone falls into them and how to prevent it or get them out of it.

It's a way of dismissing an idea so they don't have to deal with it. Feminist ideas are too incompatible with reality to stand up to any sort of objective examination, so they try to deflect attention to somewhere else, or else censor discussion altogether.

The same would apply to a genuine conspiracy. If you, as a conspirator, wanted to suppress discussion, one way would be to conflate the true story with genuine loony stuff. No-one wants to appear to be a nutter, so let's not talk about it...

The only way to sort out the truth is to gather as many facts as you can about the conspiracy story, and check for inconsistencies. The more sources you have - independent sources that is, not all coming from the same filter - the better your chances. And that requires effort.

I can see how it might, but for me it was more the other way around. I can see the validity of men's rights because I am deeply skeptical as a daily general way of looking at the world.

But I wouldn't call this a conspiracy theory. In fact feminism is literally based on a conspiracy theory ("patriarchy") that skeptics ought to reject because of the evidence.

There are objective truths present in both feminist and masculinist debate, but there are NO objective truths present in conspiracy theories (especially not the ones you mentioned specifically). We have hard data to support our claims regarding the state of men's rights and men's issues, but no such data exists to support the claims of conspiracy theorists. Conspiracy theories that have a basis in reality are just called conspiracies.
