13,000 men were hanged in just one prison. One would think killing on that scale would be the main concern.

If you prefer not to click on Daily Mail sources, then here is a screenshot of the original article.

I've also autogenerated some potential alternative sources to this story, here (they may not be entirely accurate!):

Syrian women share stories of resilience - Al Jazeera English

I'm always sickened by the fact that this question asked by OP has almost become taboo. Since when did everyone decide rape is a fate worse than death? And if it isn't then why are male deaths ignored by the mass media whilst rape is obsessed over? It seems to be an unspoken law or assumption in this post-feminist culture: that a female rape victim has endured the worst thing that could possibly ever happen to anyone.

Since when did everyone decide rape is a fate worse than death?

Uh, I learned this was a common refrain about 10 years ago.

In the same vein as "a child whois molested is fucked up for life!". It is seen as a person gettign an easy way out to be murdered.

In fact, there's some states where punishment for murder is more than for rape, so people just try to kill and dispose of rape victim bodies, because by the time the body is found, all thats clear is the murder and they get less time.

Remember "rape is a life long sentence". So sayeth all feminism and child molestation pundits.

Rapists Often Go Free But Victims' Pain Lasts Lifetime Rape Victims ...

Which would you choose? Lifetime of pain or 'just' death?

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are you serious? Are you honestly trying, however vaguely, to claim rape is worse then death? At best, such a statement is a very personal view, and that I could respect. But you seem to be both trying to make it a scientifically provable open and shut thing, yet lack the courage of your own convictions by saying it in a vague way.

Care to state what you actually believe on the issue and at least show the courage to face peoples responses?

"Worse than death": psychodynamics of rape victims and the ... - NCBI

As the legal commentator Helen Reece has pointed out recently, focusing on rape as intrinsically traumatic is contentious. It does not square with many women’s experience, which may be why so many women do not consider themselves to have been raped, still less feel the need to report their experience formally as a crime. She argues that we are creating myths about myths, or ‘myth myths’.

And have you seen the way people talk about Omnipolitics16? They want to murder him. Some people do a very good job of making a paragraph long story of how they'd go about murdering him, going into detail, in youtube comments. One person even said something like "that's it Im leaving right now, going to hire some private detectives to track you down. You're dead."

On the other side, people like Blaire White and Andy something say how horrible it is and screws people up for life. The comment section explodes in favor of omnipolitics16 getting raped and mutilated in prison, repeatedly, among other things.

I have never seen such a unified front of people wishing for torture and murder of someone who committed "just" murder.

Rape is considered torture and a lifelong burden people have to live with. That in itself is considered worse than death than everyone, because I have never, ever, heard someone say "well, at least [rape victim] wasn't murdered".

I'm sorry to burst your bubble. I'm sorry you can't distinguish who says what.

Remember "rape is a life long sentence". So sayeth all feminism and child molestation pundits.

Are you serious? Are you honestly trying, however vaguely, to claim rape is worse then death?

Nope. Its been claimed already, a thousand times over, in the responses that people have to rapists and child molesters (more rape), and even psychological papers.

"Just plain murder" isn't "especially heinous".

Heinous | Definition of Heinous by Merriam-Webster

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heinous

Define heinous: very bad or evil : deserving of hate or contempt — heinous in a sentence.

If the definition of the act is more evil on the scale than theft and murder on the scale, then we must judge that to be true by the consequences of the act. Its the same reason we think of theft as slightly less evil than murder, theft less heinous than evil.

Less evil--theft--murder--rape--more evil.

If this scale is accurate, then yes, rape is worse than death. If this scale is accurate, then it would justify why people are so enraged at the thought of rape and child molesters, and why people brought assault rifles to surround Affluenza Boy's house when he got out of jail.

We're experiencing of the creation of a crime sans-victim, in some cases. Such as when people say someone is a rape victim but the person doesn't consider themselves a victim of rape.

A woman grabbed my hand and pulled me up to dance with her. She started grinding her ass into my cock. Was I a victim of sexual assault? After all, I did not consent, although she was very attractive and I would've consented if she'd given intent to touch my genitals with her body. But she gave no indication, and I did not mentally consent, therefore it is by definition sexual assault. But I didn't feel like one until I started reading more and more about how insidious and omnipresent sexual assault is.

Am I a victim now? Im not sure. I talked to a professor about that experience once, and he said "well, I guess its just different subcultures" or something like that. Basically brushed it off, probably because it was uncomfortable for him and maybe he can't and shouldn't deal with it, although our class revolved around human rights, ethics, law, etc, as a logical and argumentative class for english papers, and we did have books assigned that had topics of sexual assault, human rights violations, rape, peeping toms, and on and on in that class.

But what if its really 'different cultures'? Then whats sexual assault or rape in one culture isn't in another. Then that says that its our mental state that turns a sexual experience from good to bad. If its our mental state, then we're all dangerously in trouble, because your last girlfriend enjoyed getting drunk with you until you were both stumbling and then fucking all night. The next morning she didn't feel raped; she enjoyed it. But what about your next girlfriend? The hairy armpit feminist? One night of that and she'll believe she was raped, and may even exhibit symptoms similar to rape.

Im not sure whether to condemn TR for using specious research claims, or approve of him for the fact that there is "some" (more like a lot) truth to belief changing your body. Meditation changes your body. Pain is almost universally a matter of perspective, belief, and even solving it.

What it points to is something that we are intensely aware of as an advanced culture; beliefs change our views of behaviors, our responses, and even our feelings about those behaviors.

You can't tell a person who believes they've been horribly scarred by an event that it didn't happen. They'll believe it til their dying day, and manifest the symptoms that they feel they should have from that belief of that event.

Is this bad? Yes. Is it worse than death? Lots of people think so, and that believe will bias them to feeling that way if it happens to them. And you have a lot of other people supporting that belief in society right now! Beliefs are hard to maintain when the world around you does not confirm it (unless you're delusional or psychotic).

They're much easier to maintain when the world promotes it, however.
