This is just part of the job. We've been berating the male MPs for years. Hell, David Camerons had it worse than anyone that I can remember (oink oink).

Are we meant to treat woman differently because of their gender? If you're going to go into a job where you tell people what to do (and say and look at and think about) you're going to have to deal with those who don't agree.

Edit. I want to add it is wrong to just abuse people over social media. It's not write to men or woman. This article just makes it seem like we're patting people on the back while being horrible to woman. If you attack their policies that's OK, getting personal isn't cool which happens to ALL politicians.

First step towards suppressing free speech - "women are being harassed."

[–]contractor808 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We should ask the UN for help /s

[–]Dazz316[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or the EU.....wait..

Politicians who bully can't cry when they're being bullied.

The lack of consequences for politicians cause anger among the public.
The shit they say makes it difficult to take their cries of harassment seriously.

On social media we have the option to screen anonymous feedback, to report it and to ask police to investigate.
The increasing lack of privacy (thanks politicians!) makes it easier to stop harassment online.

[–]Dazz316[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well it's usually not anonymous. Most of it comes from personal facebook and twitter accounts. Not going into privacy as I have mixed feelings and am not quite on the fence but it'll go into a big argument that's isn't for this post.

If you said -Theresa May you're "insert stuff about brexit" is wrong and I hate your stance, why not do this that and other stuff blah blah. - Then that's OK.

If you just said. Theresa may you're a fucking bitch. Then that's not on. It's not helpful feedback and achieves nothing.

[–]inspiron3000 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I disagree. Theresa May is a fucking bitch.

Thinking that social media achieves anything is optimistic.
It acts like an echo chamber, supporting and reinforcing cognitive biases.

[–]Dazz316[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Telling Theresa may she's a bitch is going to do what? That is just abuse and there's no need for it.

Tell her what she's doing with a certain thing like brexit, NHS etc. is wrong then that's fine. If you follow it up by saying she's a bitch for doing it then it's harsh but still good. Simply saying she's a bitch does nothing.

If everyone is saying the same thing on a certain item then it will do something and be a voice. It does require people unify. When it's filled with varying viewpoints and straight up harrasment then yeah fuck all gets acheived. But on the moment when everybody turns and says actually, we want X to happen then that's when a single unified voice starts rising out to be heard. It's like an online protest, everybody turns up to a protest for different reasons what's it going to acheive?(though that doesn't happen) but if everyone is saying the same thing then it's better.

Edit: This is beside the point anyway. Saying something related to politics is justifiable. Straight up harassment is wrong. Despite genders.

.....and yet nobodies bothered to ask the male MPs if they have had the same treatment??

[–]Dazz316[S] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It's because nobody needs to. They know what happens. It's been happening since well fuck knows when. I couldn't even fathom a date since the people have been harassing their leaders. Social media just made it easier. The only thing that's changed is more woman are entering politics. They are handling it fine. They are making a great name for woman. I don't vote SNP but Nicola Sturgeon is the bomb! Showing everyone how it's done. Just there getting the job done, not pulling out the gender card, not pulling out the sympathy card, if she hits a problem she deals with it. Same with Theresa May. Agree or disagree with their politics. They aren't pulling the shit the feminists use.

The problem is the other people making this a gendered issue.

[–]Rockbottom503 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep - couldn't agree with what you're saying any more if I tried! Women like this are the ones that should be held up as an example for others to follow. It just pisses me off that this issue is being portrayed by the reporter as an issue disproportionately affecting females when they are clearly only bothering to research the issue for females! Usual BBC crap but it still marks me.

[–]Incident-Pit -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You mean the Nicola Sturgeon that created a gender equal cabinet in Holyrood? The cabinet that female SNP MSPs have a 1/2 chance of being included in? As opposed to the 1/10 chance that male SNP MSPs get? Not pulling feminist shit eh? Ok mate.

[–]Dazz316[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Feminist bullshit would be all woman in the cabinet.

[–]Incident-Pit 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would have thought making a randomly selected female SNP MSP 500% more likely to hold a cabinet position than a randomly selected male SNP MSP, and sacking many qualified men in the process, would count as crazy feminist bullshit. You have an exceptionally high tolerance for it bud.

[–]Dazz316[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

The cabinet always gets a reshuffle when a new lease comes into play. The leaders always pick those closest to them (fucking politics). She picked them for the same reason the male ones do. They picked their allies. It's the game is politics. It's hardly new.

[–]Incident-Pit 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not really. She made a big deal, just like Justin Trudeau did, about this being all about gender equality. She had an end goal in mind and then decided that coin flip selection of candidates was better than playing at real politics. This is guaranteed to majorly bite her in the ass in the mid-long term. It's lucky for her that the SNP are a pretty single-minded and disciplined party these days, that's the only reason it hasn't backfired yet.

[–]Imnotmrabut 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Today we see yet again UK Parliamentary Misandry In Action.

Male MPs do get the same treatment, but the "Women Are Wonderful" effect and gender bias is at play.

If you make an online threat to a female MP, or if she perceives comment as threat, she see's it as a real world threat and it gets counted.

When men are threatened in the same way they see it as irrelevant, however threats to reputation with false and malicious claims are taken seriously by men ... but not counted.

So a Female MP receives the following tweet its'a a Threat "You are so stupid and ignorant you should be aborted now"

A male MP receives the following and it's not counted "You know me and you abused me as a child - You are evil, I hope you die".

MPs should all be protected from abuse and threat, not just perceived physical threat at low level of reality by female MPs - but the abuse heaped upon male MPs should also be counted and the gendered differences recognised.

[–]Dazz316[S] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The thing I said to someone else is the female MPs are not the issue. The issue is offended on behalf of people. It's other people complaing. Sub them into your statement and it's true.
