drinking alcohol is responsible

http://oralcancerfoundation.org/understanding/alcohol-connection/

alcohol weaken's the immune system and can cause cancer to spread

[–]mwobuddy 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Stress also weakens the immune system. Better not get drunk on stress.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait so men are performing oral sex on HPV infected people while drunk?

According to feminist logic rape is causing oral cancer in men.

[–]BDMR_lurker 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to quote myself from another thread : males account for 40% of HPV-related cancers.

CDC numbers.

The article and myself quote numbers from the early '10s, Gardasil was approved in 2006, so these numbers are without vaccine.

.

Does your country's healthcare provide a HPV vaccine for boys and girls, or only girls?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Only girls last time I checked (correct me if I'm wrong), even though boys are the vast majority of cases. Gender equality for ya.

http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html

The CDC recommends all children receive HPV vaccine series. One brand that contains only the strains associated with cancer is only approved for females, the others contain more strains and are approved for both. My recollection of the pharmacy climate at the time was conservative idiots were up in arms about making sex too safe so they made a vaccine that didn't cover the strains that had only been associated with warts.

This is just vaccine industry propaganda. Here's some balance,

http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/07853890.2011.645353

Lucija Tomljenovic (2011), Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine policy and evidence-based medicine: Are they at odds?

For example, while the world's leading medical authorities state that HPV vaccines are an important cervical cancer prevention tool, clinical trials show no evidence that HPV vaccination can protect against cervical cancer.

Vaccinating boys for HPV is just stupid.

[–]Troiker 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Gardasil protects against several strains of HPV; the ones most likely to cause cancer are among them. Also, citing an article that states that Gardasil isn't efficacious for preventing cervical cancer has nothing to do with whether or not boys should get it.

[–]HugoBorden -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It does seem somewhat miraculous that a vaccine designed for preventing cervical cancer in women (and failing to do so) then also turns out to prevent something in men. A fortuitous coincidence, or maybe some medical sleight of hand? I vote for the latter.

[–]Troiker 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nice conspiracy logic, mate. Gardasil has always been protective against several strains of HPV, which can cause oral cancer as well as various other cancers that both genders are affected by.

[–]HugoBorden -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How about some proof?

[–]Troiker 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

how about you look it up!

[–]HugoBorden 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see, you have no proof. Thank you.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Boys are more likely to be asymptomatic so are more likely to spread it to more people.

If you're only going to vaccinate one sex, vaccinating boys would help more boys and more girls.

[–]HugoBorden -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

If the vaccine is of no benefit to girls, how can it possibly benefit the boys, who actually have no cervix? This is just nuts.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say it was of no benefit to girls, and HPV causes, oral, anal and penile cancer as well.

[–]HugoBorden 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There's no proof of this. Cancer isn’t an infectious disease, so how can it be caused by a virus?

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

90% of cervical cancers have been linked to HPV.

Many things cause cancer by affecting either the cells themselves or the environment in which they divide. Turns out persistent infection of epithelial cells-which divide frequently-is one way. Also viral sequences are integrated into the host DNA. Retroviruses do this all the time, and messing with DNA can mess with the normal internal controls for cancer, e.g. them being programmed to self destruct if they divide too rapidly or frequently.

[–]HugoBorden 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nothing in what you said provides any proof that cancer is caused by any virus. 99% of cancers are not caused by any virus. We know that mainstream scientists tried very hard for many years to find some causation, but failed. Now they claim to have found some causation, but only in less than 1% of cancers. In fact, it’s highly doubtful on the face of it. It’s rather easy to rig studies where the number of subjects is small. And that’s what they’re doing.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Look if you don't know how retroviruses or cancer works, you don't have a sufficient understanding of how it can happen.

You can look for common HPV strains in a biopsy, leading to probable cause.

HPV causes principaly genital (cervical) cancer in women, but mostly oropharyngeal cancer in men.

[–]HugoBorden -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

mostly oropharyngeal cancer in men.

There's no proof of this.

From CDC,

recent studies show that about 70% of cancers of the oropharynx may be linked to HPV

"may be linked"? How about some proof?

[–]HugoBorden -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

they have found that 70% of oropharyngeal cancers test positive for certain HPV strains.

Correlation is not the same as causation.

regarding these other possible factors (ie smoking and alcohol ingestion)

Trying to change the subject?

[–]HugoBorden -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I do agree that HPV vaccination is important because as a vaccine it can help prevent certain types of genital cancers.

HPV vaccination is a scam.

I need some proof that HPV is actually a big cause of the cancers of the oropharynx, and also that Gardasil can prevent these cancers.

Here's some more good info about HPV

http://www.vaccinationcouncil.org/2011/02/18/60-lab-studies-now-confirm-cancer-link-to-a-vaccine-you-probably-had-as-a-child/

I urge you to consider the risks already revealed in the four short years since Gardasil came on the market. Already, there are close to 21,000 reported incidents of adverse effects and death, despite the fact that only two out of every 10 women in the approved age group have gotten the vaccine so far.

There are still outstanding questions about whether HPV is or is not the direct cause of cervical cancer. The FDA knows there are many other co-factors involved with the development of cervical cancer, and as of 2003 acknowledged that “most infections (by HPV) are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer.” The same news release also states that “with proper screening, cervical cancer is avoidable, and if caught early, curable.”

In essence, three years before the HPV vaccine came upon the scene, they knew that what was needed—if anything—was simply improved screening methods, such as regular pap smear testing for girls and women that are far less risky than getting an HPV shot.

Interestingly, and disturbingly, routine pap smears have DECLINED, coinciding neatly with the release of the HPV vaccine. Between 2007 and 2010, cervical cancer screening rates declined by nearly 7 percent, the New York Times reported in December of last year.

When you consider that the HPV vaccine increases your risk of cancer if you’re already infected with certain types of HPV, this is a double-whammy of bad news since rarely, if ever, are girls and women given HPV pap screening before they get an HPV shot.

It’s all madness! Not only is the HPV vaccine is one of the most unnecessary vaccines on the market, it is also the most dangerous! And now they want to unleash it on young boys, and they’re trying to get it approved for older women as well.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Glad I've never gone down. Question though, how come women don't get oral cancer from all the blow jobs?

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not that they can't, but that seemingly the portion of men performing oral sex has increased while for women it has not changed or at least as much.

The startling rise in oral cancer in men, and what it says about our changing sexual habits

It says nothing about our changing sexual habits. This is all just smoke and mirrors to sell dangerous vaccines.
