I saw a post a few days ago bemoaning the status of male friendships. It was little more than a sad attempt to set women up as the standard by which to judge men. Being not-women, men were, of course, found lacking.

When I spend time with friends, my wife wants to know how their kids are liking school. I don't know. Are they going anywhere on vacation? I don't know. Have they seen so-and-so lately? I don't know. Thankfully, these things never come up. But we did talk about way to control flies for half an hour!

Men and women are different and have different needs from friends. Trying to judge one off the needs of another is moronic.

What a bunch of pointless fluff. Female friendships are not inherently superior (nor inferior) to male friendships. It all depends on the individuals involved.

If you want to talk about long-lasting, deep friendships - my family still goes and visits my dad's childhood friend whenever we're in his neck of the woods. They can go years without seeing each other, but they're still perfectly comfortable with it. This man is my godfather and I've always addressed him as an uncle despite no blood relation, because of how good friends he and my father are.

Meanwhile, I'm a socially awkward shut-in who has no irl friends since leaving high-school.

Women need more friends because they are essentially in competition with each other. When a person is battling with their "friend" they will require another for emotional support.

Men need fewer friends, because they are friends with their friends.

Short answer: no. They just get the all the socialization they need, and make fun of men looking for friendship.

Men make friends. Women make alliances. Men have friendships that could be 2 decades old. Women's BFFs last 6 months.
