Wrongthink?

The guy threatened people with violence.

I only hope that such threats are taken seriously regardless of gender.

I dont the mrm should get in the business of defending threats as free speech

They should probably make it illegal to threaten to charge someone with a serious crime in order to get them to plead guilty to a minor one.

Rape threats should be criminalized.

They are. At the least, that's menacing.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Threats of violence are already criminalised, but there is a difference between "I'm gonna kill you (statement of irritation/anger" and "I'm gonna kill you (threat to commit murder)."

What they are doing here seems to be a deliberate attempt to conflate two entirely different things, and to use that conflation to start controlling the way the Internet is used.

, but there is a difference between "I'm gonna kill you (statement of irritation/anger" and "I'm gonna kill you (threat to commit murder)."

Even you have to admit that the difference is almost always only known to the person stating it, not the person receiving said statement.

Furthermore, the distinction is impossible to determine online without a sarcasm tag.

Why? What's a 'rape threat'?

Unless I'm missing something (and I might well be) this man didn't make any 'rape threats'. And if he did, so what? There are at least two children's films (Shrek - Puss In Boots and Dr Doolitle 2) which feature 'jokes' about prison-rape of men (bending over for soap etc.).

They felt quite threatening to me. If I was being interviewed by the police, and a cop made a reference to prison rape, I'd certainly feel threatened.

Is that what you mean? Why isn't that illegal? I can't see what this man has done or said that I don't see the BBC do on a frequent basis.

Why? What's a 'rape threat'?

A rape threat is a threat to rape someone. That should be obvious.

And if he did, so what?

No. We do not get equality by trying to excuse our criminal behavior.

If I was being interviewed by the police, and a cop made a reference to prison rape, I'd certainly feel threatened.

Yep, cops are allowed to threaten you with rape. This should be illegal.

Why isn't that illegal?

Why isn't cops threatening suspects illegal? We don't disagree. Cops get away with a lot of stuff that we would go to jail for, not just this.

Right, hold on, if it's not possible to rape a man (according to the law) then how could you 'threaten' someone with something that isn't even a crime?

And if a 'rape threat' is so fucking terrible, then why would it be OK to do it to a boy or a man? Why should I take something seriously that, if done to one of my sons, wouldn't even be taken seriously as any sort of crime?

Women cannot rape a man. Men can rape a man (which is what happens in prison rape).

Edited to add: Women cannot rape a man... is the logic they use, not my personal opinion on the topic.
