You sound like a product of the zero-tolerance policies that are all the rage now. Zero tolerance means zero common sense. Common sense says that it's not a crime for two people who can legally fuck each other to voluntarily send each other dirty pictures of themselves. You keep bringing up vast differences in ages that just aren't present in this particular case and aren't relevant. But if you insist, let's cover that as well. If it would be considered statutory rape for you to fuck someone else, then it would also be production/possession of child porn BY THE ADULT ONLY. If the law deems that someone is too young to be able to consent to sex, then that person is too young to be guilty of child porn laws by taking pictures/videos of themself. By your reasoning, my 5 and 7 year old daughters should be arrested for producing child porn because they took off their panties and took pictures of their butts.

The misapplication of these laws is a travesty and any authorities responsible for putting kids through this shit should be held personally and criminally liable for civil rights violations.

The law deems you incapable of deciding to take nudes of yourself, to produce nudes of yourself, or give those nudes to others.

It is decided using the same laws applied to being unable to have sex with someone who is 18+. It is built on pre-existing age of consent laws that have routinely been used solely against males, both over and underage since their raising from 12 in the 1900's, to prosecute males who "defile maidens".

The laws are worded and understood in history as sex and sexual behavior as being a process which "corrupts innocent youths, defiles, etc".

As sex is seen in this light, it naturally makes sense that even an underage participant in this "corruption of minors" should be guilty.

Think about the phrase "corruption of minor" for a second. That is the basis of what age of consent laws, and porn laws are all about. If two people who are 16 can have sex with each other as it is "not corrupting", then what is the diff if one happened to be 18? The same goes with nudes.

The point Im making is that moral panic drove these laws for reasons of seeing sex as bad and wrong.

It isn't about protecting minors from exploitation in sex, because, like you said, it is legal in many places for them to exploit each other, provided it isn't clearly rape. An underage male or female can lie, deceive, or otherwise manipulate someone into sex with no negative repercussions, exactly as the age of consent law is presumed to prevent such from occurring by older people, and yet people who are both older can do to each other legally.
