Mother Nature must suffer from internalised misogyny.

Well, it made females weak and vulnerable in the natural world where muscle does matter. This is what used to be called the order of nature. Everybody was satisfied with it for millennia until the social engineers came along. And messed up things for everybody.

"Women who stay at home are more vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis than men who sleep outside or work out at sea."

Those privileged bastards.

This link has already been submitted here, but with the title that was not very clear.

Myself, I see both feminism and the Global Warming stuff as questionable, and here the two intermix together in a sort of a Political Correctness festival. :(

The Globe article is actually quite good in pointing out that the Minister Catherine McKenna was basically wrong and used discredited data.

Even if you believe the data (the 2007 study has the number of fatalities for each disaster, but not by gender, yet it states women die more in some of them), it is still bullshit. According to this study, the whole article she tweeted is built on, women die more in earth quakes, tsunami, flood. Men die more in lightning, thunderstorm, flash floods, hurricanes. Earth quakes and tsunamis are not related to global warming.

I guess this is what the Women's Studies departments are for – to manufacture fake data and stats. They have to justify their existence somehow.

[–]ABC_Florida 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is not only women's studies. It is message lost to noise in transmission. First of all the 2007 study speaks mostly about gendered nature of disasters. 80% of the time (or even more) it's about women. It states where women got it worse, where men got it worse. Still missing crucial facts, BTW. Then this study is used by VICE, but the message is now that climate change impacts women the most. Then she tweets it claiming to be a gender issue.

You know, where there are facts of men getting it worse (Katrina), it claims those "might" not be accurate. Where there are numbers missing, it comes up with anecdotal evidence of a father letting go of her daughter, because his son can carry on his name. BTW the 2007 study is written by two men.

Broken telephone? Yes, that's how pseudo-science works.

The idea that the government minister would be basing her analysis on VICE magazine is weird enough already.
