This issue has double standards for women too.

For women who stay at home with their kids, feminists shame them harshly. "Feminism is all about giving women choices on how they want to live their lives. If they choose to stay at home, then more power to them". Oh, such utter, utter bullshit. Stay at home mothers are mostly financially dependent on a man, they do most of the domestic and childcare tasks, it reinforces the truth about the gender wage gap, it means less women working their way up the corporate ladder, it reinforces traditional gender roles. Make no mistake, feminists hate what SAHMs represent to their very core.

To this point, unlike the blundering idiot husband, dumb dad trope, SAHMs see overwhelmingly positive portrayals in the media. In every commercial, women are powerful executives, top scientists, a tough as nails firefighter or police officer, usually the voice of reason and the smartest person in the room. Eventually they think to themselves, "Maybe these feminists are correct? I should be one these SuperWomen. Maybe I am a failure for 'only' being a stay at home mom?"

Meanwhile at the opposite end of the spectrum, busy working mothers who use daycare also receive criticism from many non-feminist women who shame them for "letting strangers raise her kids", her time at work is a form of neglect, she is a bad mother, she is selfish and so on.

These women see and hear the other side too. They're busy at work and they hear about their friends at the park, at soccer practice, their friends at home in their pajamas having a drink while watching The Price Is Right and they think, "Maybe these SAHMs are right? Maybe I am a bad mother for being at work?"

They can't win either way. It's sad, really.

Fun fact that no public figure or feminist is willing to admit: this issue almost always involves how women treat each other with virtually none of this shaming on either side coming from men (this applies to slut-shaming and body shaming too).

However, I am very sure this is all somehow the fault of that bad-ass, invisible, evil ghost, super villain known as... (cue horror movie music).... The Patriarchy !!

Because vagina.

Apprently having a vagina makes stay at home parenting 29438e times harder. And dont fall for attempts at blending pregnancy into parenting.

Pregnancy is not the same thing as parenting and only lasts for 9 months.

clearly the point is men are so much more effective at it that stay at home fathering is trivially simple, where women struggle with it so much their comparative effort exceeds every other job.
