TL;DR: There is an historical bagage that you are just not awear of.

The problem here is that you are using mainstream society values to judge the use of a word in a subculture. Gay men have been using those words for over a generation, for completely different reasonos, with completely different meanings, and with no negative connotation. The fact that mainstream society believes cunt is a derogatory term because straight men use it to insult females doesnt automatically mean that this situation "its like white people trying to reappropiate n*****".

For example, originally, in that subculture, cunt stood for "Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent". Other words such as Bitch and Fierce were synonyms. They had possitive connotations, mostly due the fact that the members of the LGBT community had to suffer a lot of discrimination at that time; so the most brave ones (that generally were inside to the civil rights movements for LGBT liberation at that time) were regarded as cunts, bitchs, etc.

The lack of sight on the original author lead her to believe that "gays are trying to reappropiate the meaning of those words". Simply put, she is wrong.
