Classic example of remembering something differently than the camera, which shows how reliable witness testimony is as well as how memory can be colored by ideology.

There was a 19 year-old that got hit on the hand with some of the pepper spray, so those are two different girls.

UPDATE: This is getting interesting because the police department released a statement saying that a man groped her as if it was a fact and not an allegation: https://local.nixle.com/alert/5615856/

Here is an alternate angle where you can hear the girl say that she deserved to be pepper sprayed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO3I5VBEE_4

Also, notice that the police are looking for two suspects, the groper and the pepper sprayer. It seems the girl took a swing at the pepper sprayer, not the alleged groper. I hope the Janesville Police Department gets sued.

the whole thing was caught on camera. she did that stupid shit where a person gets in another persons face, and he puts his arm up to keep her from getting closer. no groping happened.

[–]jasonmiles2014 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's so irresistibly sexy, someone must have wanted to grope her. Duh.

As I suspected she was never groped and was the aggressor. She got what she deserved after sucker punching the old guy. Video

I wonder how long it will take the Janesville Police to charge her with assault.

[–]FFXIV_Machinist 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yep, all he does is touch her with a piece of paper. no groping at all.

BLM is a decent idea supported by belligerent idiots; Trump is a belligerent idiot supported by decent people. I love when my enemies fight eachother.

[–]Azothlike 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

BLM is a decent idea supported by belligerent idiots;

No, not really.

BLM was founded on black men being killed by police.

What they fail to understand, is that it's because they're men, not because they're black. Unarmed men are 19x more likely to be killed by police than unarmed women. The black/white divide is 5x, tiny by comparison.

If BLM wasn't founded in ignorance, maybe it wouldn't be the laughable Herstory/Black-Feminism front it is today. If BLM was BMLM or MLM, it would be a decent idea.

[–]HotDealsInTexas 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit. Can I have a source on those two stats? I've been looking for data for the gender ratio of people killed by police.

[–]HotDealsInTexas 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, I knew about the sentencing disparity, and I knew the vast majority of people killed by police were male, but I want a stat I can wave in peoples' faces, especially when they say hyperbolic shit like "Police brutality is a genocide against black people."

[–]Azothlike 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll have to dig for the exact source I used; it segmented unarmed killings by race and gender.

In the meantime, pretty much every police statistic that splits by gender will show the ~19x disparity.

Well, here's a half measure:

http://mappingpoliceviolence.org/s/MPVDatasetDownload-qheu.xlsx

It's not the source I originally used to calculate the 19x vs 5x, but mappingpolicedata.com compiled all the police shooting deaths in 2015, and labeled them according to race, sex, and unarmed status.

The totals aren't listed. It would take some effort to find the totals for those categories, but you can scroll through the list and see the male/female disparity.

61 female killings, out of 1196 total.

That's 5%, aka, 19x more men than women killed by police.

It'd be more work to compare Black Unarmed to White Unarmed, and then compare that to Male Unarmed vs Female Unarmed, but the information is there.

[–]yoshi_win -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You've shown that BLM < MLM, but not that BLM < 0. If black lives are undervalued then this is bad regardless of whether male lives are also undervalued. Black men would be killed because they're men AND because they're black. A BLM movement based on careful comparisons of police homicide data would be far more respectable than the circus it is today.

[–]Azothlike 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

If black lives are undervalued

Assuming more black police fatalities = Black lives are "undervalued" is an unproven leap of logic. The data simply proves that, if you are intent on making such a baseless leap, leaping to the Racism platform is the wrong platform to leap to.

Black men would be killed because they're men AND because they're black

The data proves that, if it is a sign of and caused by prejudice, that it is more because they are male than because they are black.

Therefore, being upset that black men are being killed by police, and going on to create a "Black Lives Matter" movement to solve that problem, is extremely misguided. Fixing the issue of racist discrimination in police brutality will bring less benefit than fixing the issue of gender discrimination in police brutality.

But the people who created the movement are bored black feminists, and addressing the biggest statistical problem wouldn't have benefited them.

A BLM movement based on careful comparisons of police homicide data would be far more respectable than the circus it is today.

It is impossible to base such a movement on careful comparisons of police homicide data, and not come to the conclusion that your movement should be named Male Lives Matter or Black Male Lives Matter to address that problem.

Plus, the idea of BLM blatantly misrepresents the problem to the public and people in general. It is blatant misinformation. It leads to ignorance like this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU3vcvGpALQ&t=4m24s

Where people misattribute police brutality to black women, who are privileged enough to be virtually nonexistent in police brutality statistics.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Le_G_pr51x8

in this clip a woman pushes man off ledge for "touching her breasts". But clearly you can see she pushed her body onto the back of his forearm.

When someone gets in your face its natural to want to push them back for your safety. I've been personally assaulted by females and it's close range they are the most dangerous. I'm gonna carry pepper spray from now on cause it seemed very effective in this video.

[–]ForeverIndex -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

You kidding? You don't use pepper spray on protesters. If you are a cop maybe... but that shit was completely uncalled for.

Edit: This behavior now makes it acceptable for both the offenders and deffenders of protests to bring pepper spray. Sorry if I think using it during such an event is a bad idea.

[–]Boozeman78 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you use pepper spray on people who punch you?

[–]ForeverIndex 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, I don't carry it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm a defender of free speech, free press and the right to free assembly. However in a street fight everything is acceptable. She turned it into a fight once she started swinging. How is self defense ever uncalled for? I don't know where you're from but in Texas the citizens have the same rights to defend themselves as cops do. Meaning lethal force. I was being nice with pepper spray cause I'd have the right to shoot the person.

[–]ForeverIndex 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is that true in Texas, even if the event is not on your property? I guess I just always assumed that. As for self defense, the man carrying the pepper spray wasn't the one who was punched. It was the elderly man. Personally, I think there are two at fault here, the girl and the guy who pepper sprayed. The claim that the old man did any groping is ridiculous.

[–]ForeverIndex -4 points-3 points-2 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Whether she got groped or not, that pepper spray was way out of line.

Edit: like I said in another comment. If a civilian uses pepper spray at a protest, it makes it acceptable for both the offenders and defenders to arm themselves with use pepper spray at future events, for a purpose other then that of self defense. Sorry if I think using this at such an event is a terrible idea.

Edit: While my edit might not improve my popularity, I simply wanted to clarify by what I meant earlier. I do believe it's acceptable to carry pepper spray.

[–]atheist4thecause[S,🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How was the pepper spray out of line? She punched the guy and he protected himself.

[–]ForeverIndex -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I understand your argument, but think if everyone at protests start bringing pepper spray. Now everyone at these anti-trump protests are going to arm themselves with spray and this crap is going to be an even bigger shit show.

[–]atheist4thecause[S,🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay, but that is more of what you want than anything. There's nothing wrong with people "arming" themselves with pepper spray. There may eventually be some sort of private policy against it, but as long as people aren't misusing it there's no problem, and this guy didn't misuse it.

[–]ForeverIndex 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you that arming yourself with spray is no issue. On top of this, I don't condone her actions. However, I simply don't agree with the use of pepper spray in situations like this. Especially, since the one doing the spraying was someone not involved in the verbal confrontation. It was a guy standing behind him.
