illegal as its in the UK, violation of EU directive as you cannot offer different terms and services (charges) based on gender.

a female only promotion for a non gendered service is absolute fucking horse shit and very much illegal.

haha whoosh

Not in the uk post 2012

[–]Dazz316 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

2012 was after my clubbing days. Prime was probably around 2005-2009. I saw very little ladies nights. Not very popular. Maybe Scotland banned then earlier than England or something.

Its not illegal because men cant be oppressed /s

[–]iainmf 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men's day is Nov 19

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But I don't see them getting free skiing and snowboarding.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

email and complain:

https://www.snozoneuk.com/home.aspx

It is against the law:

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/discrimination/discrimination-in-the-provision-of-goods-and-services1/discrimination-in-goods-and-services-overview/ Why are you being treated unfairly?

It’s only unlawful discrimination if a trader or service provider treats you unfairly because of:

age - but only if you're 18 or over disability gender reassignment pregnancy and maternity race religion or belief sex sexual orientation.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is illegal. they cannot offer it on womens day or mens day.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

EVERY DAY IS MEN'S DAY YOU PRIVILEGED SHITLORD!!

Seriously though it is illegal. The problem is that if you complain you will be subjected to an unbelievable amount of ridicule.

[–]Lucius_Martius 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

When I went skiing last week (Austrian Alps, Kitzbühel) they had a women's day as well as a men's day (only cheaper, not free) every week. Sadly it was the day I departed so I couldn't use it. So it's not that bad everywhere and as others have pointed out, it should be illegal already.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know that resort, I have been there; per the advert it is the same:

http://www.bergbahn-kitzbuehel.at/en/promotion-days-kitzski-calling-1.html

If they do discriminate against men we should stop going there.

[–]Lucius_Martius 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you please clarify what you mean by it being the same (as what)? I clearly see a ladies' day and a men's day. One might even argue that Friday (Men's day) is a better weekday than Monday,(Ladies' day) but that would be nitpicking.

Is there an issue with that advert I am not aware off?

I'm sorry, but this is really petty.

[–]hackableyou 28 points29 points30 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It is still insulting.

[+]Ekat_clan -10 points-9 points-8 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I mean,it is,but it's not something we should be up in arms about.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes definitely it is very illegal in the UK. Imagine the outcry if this had been free entrance for males.

[–]LooseSkinOnRickRoss 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its something feminists should be up in arms about.

[–]hackableyou 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it is a better post for /r/mensrants

[–]Ekat_clan 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think that's a good place for it. Thanks for not lambasting me.

[–]hackableyou 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh sure no problem. I like your post either way.

[–]Savor_The_Flavor -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Who lambasted you?

No answer but down votes. I thought better of you people.

[–]DPestWork 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What do they call it, Systemic Discrimination?

[–]Funcuz 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree but I'm still supporting the grievance.

As a matter of principle, at what point does it stop being petty ? Does it stop being petty after 20 years ? How many companies need to favor females before it's not petty anymore ? Moreover, where is the favoritism in my favor as a male ? I keep hearing feminists tell me it's everywhere but I can't see any evidence of it.

What's really important here is that if an industry can spring up over night that dictates to me how I can sit on a train or bus, I think I have the right to complain when those same people demand special entitlements and privileges. Why is it everybody can get behind that but nobody can be bothered to give me the free skiing on "my special day" ?

[–]Ekat_clan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You make a really good point. And I respect you. And at this point, you do get more perks in society for being a woman. I'm just not too offended by this one. Free skiing on Men's day would be something I would like, though.

[–]Surfinite[S] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah it's not a huge deal, but it's still not right.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is a big deal in the UK since it is totally illegal and if it were the other way around the business could well be closed down!

[+]dirteater6 -11 points-10 points-9 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

They're a private company. They should be able to offer whatever promotion they want.

[–]double-happiness 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

No they shouldn't. Even a private company has a moral and ethical obligation to respect the community of which it is a member, just the same as a private citizen. Surely you wouldn't be happy with a discount for whites? Racial discrimination and gender discrimination by a business are unethical; they should be seen to treat all prospective (genuine) customers equally. Anyone who has money to spend should be treated equally. It's ethical and good business practice.

Edit: you wouldn't want to allow a discount for electoral / voter behaviour either, for similar reasons. Trying to influence an election through a promotion would obviously be unethical. So it's not generally true to say that businesses can legitimately offer any promotion they want, they do have responsibilities to the community that restrict their business practices.

[–]dirteater6 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think any discrimination is a good idea, but I'm not going to deny them the right to run their business as they please. You are insinuating that you are an owner of the business than can therefore tell them what to do.

By the way, where does this obligation even come from? Simply by "existing"? Funny how suddenly it is moral to make people behave a certain way when the way they're behaving doesn't initiate any force on you whatsoever. You don't have a right to the results of anybody else's labor. GTFO

[–]double-happiness 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

You are insinuating that you are an owner of the business than can therefore tell them what to do.

Government clearly has the mandate to regulate business, otherwise what is its purpose?

Funny how suddenly it is moral to make people behave a certain way when the way they're behaving doesn't initiate any force on you whatsoever.

Yes it does, I already demonstrated that:

"you wouldn't want to allow a discount for electoral / voter behaviour either, for similar reasons. Trying to influence an election through a promotion would obviously be unethical."

GTFO

Charming! Do you always swear at people (complete strangers to you, no less) who are just trying to have a civil discussion on the internet? I think that says a lot about the content of your character, my friend.

Edit: we are talking about UK law anyway, so since I see you're from the US I'm not sure what say you think you have over the law of my country? I'll continue to vote for the parties that do the best job of regulating businesses, thank you, and if you don't like that then don't come here, simple.

[–]Funcuz 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, the rationale is that if you're offering a service in the public sphere then you have to serve that same public. In other words, if you want to make money from society at large then you don't get to dictate who constitutes that same society.

The state supplies you with currency, civil protection, copyright protection, and all kinds of other goodies. It collects taxes from everybody. We all paid into that kitty so if you want to use the roads, sewers, electrical grid, etc. that I helped pay for then you're going to serve me when I walk into your store. The option you have is to find an island somewhere, declare yourself a sovereign nation, and make your own laws while building all that infrastructure yourself (assuming you want any)

[–]WaitingToBeBanned 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You are a terrible person.

[–]osborn2shred11 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would never deny that

[+][deleted] 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]WaitingToBeBanned 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be pointless.
