I need help with friends

One thing I've noticed over the years is that my friendships have emerged from shared experiences. I had someone try to tell me once that men become friends by sitting down and talking. I don't think that's true; I think men become friends by doing things together, rather than just talking. Talking gets you to lower your defenses, but the friendship emerges from that shared experience you have.

A bunch of commenters in this thread mention team sports as a way to make friends. I think that's a great suggestion. Most of my high school friends I made playing baseball. The two exceptions were friends with my other friends first, and I spent so much time around them playing pickup sports that I became friends with them.

My college friends have been a little different. I became friends with two of my current housemates because we're the same major. We'd see each other at sporting events and hang out there, which progressed to working together on projects and homework, to living together now. Our other roommates are guys we've spent so much time with playing pickup sports or video games that we've all become friends. On top of that, I made friends through my fraternity and the shared experiences that entails.

My point is, if you want male friends, just find something you want to do (whether that be sports, video games, music, or even ballroom dancing) and find a group of guys to do it with.

Team sports. Also don't be afraid to go places yourself. I've moved more times than I can count and went to music shows/festivals by myself a bunch of times and met a group to hang out with there.

Be personable and unafraid to speak to strangers. Not that much to it. As long as your a person people enjoy being around you'll have no problem making new friends.
