This annual event has been completely hijacked by an organization calling itself no-shave November, which has shifted the focus away from men's health.

Make no mistake about which came first. Movember began in 2003, with the fundraising efforts for men's health beginning in 2004. The No-Shave-November group started in 2009, hijacking the focus of what they call a "tradition" of growing a mustache in November. According to their website:

No-Shave November has been a tradition for many years, but it wasn’t until the fall of 2009 that members of the Chicagoland Hill family decided to use it as a means to raise money for charity.

The money raised by No-Shave-November is not directed to mens' health.
