I am not yet a master at overcoming this, but I have made some significant progress. I'd recommend checking out what Jocko Willink, Jordan Peterson and Tim Ferriss have to say on the subject. And most importantly, you need to actually start implementing these ideas and habits. Then you can see what works and what doesn't. Expect it to be really hard and don't ever give up.

For time management you can also take a look at the pomodoro technique and for project management you can check out agile frameworks used by startups (Scrum is a popular one)

Productivity/discipline is a habit. Productive people aren't always in an uplifted mood, they're just like you; they feel motivated and unmotivated at different times.

Force yourself to begin a task. Commit to reading one paragraph of a book and then going back to playing video games. You will most likely read the next one also and maybe even the whole page. Starting is the hardest part. It's important that you actually tell yourself that you'll only read one paragraph! If you only say that to yourself while in the back of your mind thinking that you'll study for 4 hours, you'll never start.

Start enough times, during enough days, until starting becomes a habit that you do regardless of how you're feeling. After some time, your standard of studying will instead of, say 10 hours a week, be 20.

Discipline is who you are and will translate to all aspects in life. Motivation is how you feel for five minutes after listening to some LOTR soundtrack.

Who learnt anything in college anyways . . . . learning is continuous, you need to develop the interest to always be learning in life. . . . College gives u the time to actually do a lot more.. .

I'm finishing up the first half of my Master's in Neuroanatomy and Neurobiology today with an exam in an hour so sorry if I have grammatical mistakes as I don't have time to proofread. These next two years can practically erase your first two if you show upward progression. I'll say that the mental roadblock never goes away and never get's easier. Don't depend on motivation to change it either because motivation means nothing. It is truly all about self-discipline.

I know that it's so much easier said than done, but it really is everything. It's not going to come to you either. Force yourself to change.

Lastly- don't have a "mental plan" when it comes to studying. You need to schedule what content you'll cover on which days and stick to it.

Here's my experience:

With grants my tuition was about 50% off.

All I wanted to do was party/get laid in college(the latter barely if at all happened). Did not study, eventually I failed out of school. Even after a break/working in a couple of factories/almost joining the military(was in the DEP but got accepted back into University).

Now I owe ~$35K, no degree, I wash plates primarily while freelancing as a web developer. Trying to get a job as a developer but it doesn't seem to be happening(focus/current predicament) bout to be homeless/may abandon my cat to move in with a friend from out of state. Mean while that debt keeps growing $2k/year or so. In the grand scheme $40K or so(total debts) isn't much, but when you make less than $20K/year and you don't have much excess/savings, yeah... Thankfully with the PAYE I've got it on hold/don't have to pay, my payments were like $400/mo or so.

So I don't know how to tell you to find motivation. Do you like what you're doing/studying? Time flies man. I've been out of school 3 years now...

Yeah it's hard when it's up to you to do things. High school you're told everyday what to do and when to do it. College? Do what you want. Except those classes where attendance is mandatory/fail if you miss three days.

I pissed away my education/racked up debts(5 credit cards I defaulted on/decided not to pay) everyday I get a call from some number trying to get money. My credit score is fucked/hard to get a place to live/can't really do things like rent a car.

So yeah... try not to do these things. If you don't want to go through with education, maybe get out for a semester? It's probably better not to stop but if you're going to fail out/owe that money... Maybe you're lucky and you don't owe money.

Are you really lazy or are you simply efficient at getting work done? What are your grades like? Are you doing this little of studying and getting C’s or A’s? I don’t do much studying because i usually don’t have to. For some classes I’ll do more yet others require very little.

Force yourself to study everyday, at least an hour. After a month or two it will become a habit and you won’t have struggles.

I'm finishing pharmacy school. I know exactly what you're talking about. One thing you can do is just get started for 10 minutes and see how it goes. Also, get your ass to the library instead of studying in your room. Every now and then, go for a study break. Think about the shit you'll be able to buy after you get your bachelors/masters/doctorate etc. Browsing cars I might be able to afford in the future was motivating and provided a refreshing break. Let me know if you have other questions.

Learn the difference between being lazy and being idle.

A lazy man understands that the purpose of work is to avoid future work. An idle man wants to do nothing now but will pay for it by having to do extra work in the future. Idle men can end up working really hard even though that was never their intention. Ignore the mistranslation in the Bible, it is the lazy that will inherit the Earth.

Before you do anything that could be considered work, including your studies, ask yourself the important question:

Will doing this work mean having to do less work in the future?
