Note how this story is reported. The boy is not referred to as "the victim" as is typical in news reports about women who accuse men of sexual abuse (and note, it is not proper to call an accuser a "victim" but the double-standard is appalling). Declaring an accuser a "victim" manifests the "always believe the woman" attitude that has been a principal message of feminism for the past few decades.

More important, if the boy is telling the truth, he would be victimized again: first, three years of sexual abuse at the hands of this teacher, and now, he'd be falsely accused of telling a rape lie.

Refers to a "relationship" numerous times too.

Good point. "Rape" is not a "relationship."

[–]Rethgil 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It literally made me feel sick.

[–]Rethgil 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its disgusting. Imagine the story was about a ten year old girl abused by a man. People would storm the papers offices to protest the language and reporting used, questions would be asked in parliament. And im not even slightly joking.

And from just a few years ago http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/8800704/11-year-old-Auckland-boy-fathers-child

Even the term they use "she fell pregnant" implies she is the helpless victim to a CHILD.

[–]pintocat 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The judge will probably rule that the 10 year old was mature for his age.

So I don't have any comments on this particular case until there's a sentencing (if she's found guilty) but it's interesting to note the history of this sort of thing in New Zealand (from Wikipedia):

The sexual abuse of boys of any age, including rape, by adult women was fully legal in New Zealand until around 2007

That's truly pathetic. Here's a link to the case that apparently prompted the change:

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/06/17/1055828330746.html

A 21-year-old female New Zealand coach has escaped prosecution, despite admitting to having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy who was swimmer in her training squad. Stacey Friel escaped prosecution because of a legal anomaly in New Zealand that prohibits sex between men and under-age girls but not between women and under-age boys. But she was suspended for 12 months by Swimming New Zealand following its investigations. Friel admitted she fell in love with the boy, whose name has been suppressed by SNZ, during their six-month relationship and claimed to have double-checked the law to make sure it was legal to have sex with him.

because of a legal anomaly

The Irish incest laws are currently being changed due to a similar pro-female/anti-male "anomaly" in sentencing. Neither of these would be called "an anomaly" if they were the other way around.

The reality is that neither laws were anomalies, they were very much part of a still ongoing trend whereby legislative sexism against women was done away before most of us were born, but legislative sexism against men has remained.

I really hope she's not good-looking (if they'll even allow for her to be named publicly), because we'll only hear "nice" and "what a lucky boy" comments thrown around.

Do those people think it is normal for an adult woman to be attracted to 10-year-old boys?

Do they lust after 10-year-olds themselves?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do those people think it is normal for an adult woman to be attracted to 10-year-old boys?

They just project their own sexual fantasies on to every boy. Because if they wanted to bang their teacher at age ten, it's normal for every boy in their minds.

[–]MrDoradus 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

They only look at one side of the equation and think how they would have felt in the situation if they were the boy and conclude that "it'd feel great". Well at least I hope that's the case and they're not all paedophiles. And if I'm completely honest I wouldn't mind having "an affair" with some of my teachers when I was young.

But that's the most trivial side of these story here. Even if the boy liked it all, the teacher is the one having sex with a minor (10-yo even, for crying out loud). She should have known better and apparently isn't fit to live in modern society. Even if the boy liked it all at the time, he could come to regret it later and no matter what, the teacher should still be held accountable for breaking the law. They're there for a reason.

I just hope they don't cause the boy any harm dragging him through all this ordeal.

It's disturbing how many people there are right here on /r/mensrights who will defend the abuser in situations like this; or more specifically argue that it shouldn't be perceived as a crime because they themselves "would have loved to bang their teacher in 6th grade". It's like people can't comprehend that a 10-12 year old boy is not emotionally mature enough to handle something like sex, especially with someone more than double their age. That shit can fuck you up psychologically in ways you couldn't even imagine as an adult.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glad to see some people get it. I totally agree.

[–]Jasperkr672 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just because you enjoyed something, doesn't mean that everyone else did.

[–]MrDoradus 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you, but some people have harder time wrapping their heads around this idea. If it'd be OK for them personally to have sex with their hot teacher, then it absolutely must be the same for everyone else and they have difficulties understanding how others would think differently.

Can't say with complete certainty that's true, but this could explain what/how these idiots are thinking when writing those stupid comments and dismissing the severity of the crime.

Edit: oh and they don't even think about the part where a grown-up woman is attracted to the boy, like you mentioned. I doubt they take that into consideration, because it is a lot more twisted when you look at it from that perspective, even "they" couldn't deny that.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

NyThat argument about "I may have wanted that when I was younger" totally misses the point. You dont think some underage girls have lusted after older men? What matters is that the girl or boy in question is not emotionally mature or mentally equipped to deal with the consequences or meaning of such events if they were to happen to them. That's why kids have parents, to say no sometimes even when the kid "thinks" it's ready. Do you think no child ever wanted a gun or sword as a kid? Do you think they should have one?!

It's also why idiot parents who say they think their child is transexual or gay etc when theyre just turning eight are dangerous. Children of that age dont fully understand what those choices or things actually even mean for their future lives when they are so young.

Title makes no sense, how could he be 10 years old for longer than a year?
