I wonder if he even knows the circumcision of the Torah didn't remove the whole foreskin. What he's talking about was a 2nd century AD invention by Jewish high priests to keep Jewish males from commingling too easily with the Greeks in the gymnasiums. Many Jews I talk to aren't aware of this. Unfortunately, they tend to defend the status quo anyway, rather than question a 2000 year old man-made decree.

Allow for the sake of argument that God created the universe and everything in it.

And God said "Let Us make Man in Our image, after Our likeness" [Genesis 1:26] God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was good. [Genesis 1:31]

This guy needs to go back to Rabbi school if he can't even remember what the very first book of the Bible says about man's image. Seriously. This is Theology 101, basic shit here, it'd be like calling yourself a mechanical engineer and then asking "What's a blueprint?"

This Rabbi is arguing that God messed up and made critical errors when creating each man (that durn foreskin, how'd that slip in to his perfect design?), that only human religious authority can fix. Not merely that, but God Himself is messed up, since we are created in His perfect image, but His image needs to be corrected. Now, if Genesis read "For God saw all that He had made in His image, and said 'Eh, close enough.'" I could understand the Rabbi's stance, but...

Never mind what the Bible actually says about circumcision (the Hebrew word used in Genesis, mool, means "to mark towards the front", not "to cut off the foreskin entirely"), this man is arguing that if every human had six toes on each foot, that God would have made a mistake and it would be up to man to correct it by cutting off one toe apiece.

(And to return to the Biblical verse, it'd be like God saying "You should paint your sixth toenail as a mark of respect to Our covenant" and contemporary authorities saying "Did you hear Him? He said we need to cut off our toes!")

(As far as personal pet peeves go, I hate hubris. I particularly hate religious hubris, if only because it takes an exponentially larger amount of hypocrisy to put yourself before the god you've claimed as a being superior to you, and then say "We are but made in the image of God, we are fallible shadows in comparison to His perfection... we are so flawed that He had to inspire a book telling us what to do... that being said, we totally know better than Him when it comes to what He wants us to do, so ignore the damn book!")
